MIC Seva Vanitha Continues Award of Schools to Ranaviru Families

AWARD of scholarships organized annually by Seva Vanitha Branch of Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) to assist children of War Hero families was held for the year 2009 at Moors’ stadium auditorium in Kompannavidiya on Tuesday (27).

Ten children of MIC War Heroes who lost their lives, or had gone missing or became disabled in the humanitarian operations received scholarships from Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) who attended the occasion as the Chief Guest in the ceremony. 

Each child was gifted bank savings books with a deposit of Rs. 100,000/= after the SVAB took the initiative in cooperation with the MIC Seva Vanitha Branch.  

Sponsorship for scholarships was coordinated by former Sri Lanka’s ambassador in Paris Ms. Chithrangani Wageeshwara and the incumbent ambassador Mr. Lionel Fernando with the financial support they received from expatriates resident there. 

Meanwhile, necessary funds were handed over to three totally disabled MIC soldiers for construction of well-equipped attached bathrooms in their homes on the same occasion. With coordination of MIC Seva Vanitha Branch, three popular businessmen in Matara area Messrs R.H. Chulasena, S.L. Jayaratne and S.K. Kahandugoda have sponsored this construction project. 

At the same time, a cheque to the value of Rs. 100,000/- collected by MIC Seva Vanitha for construction of the proposed “Wellness Resort for Totally Disabled Soldiers” was handed over to Mrs. Jayasuriya, the architect behind the concept. MIC Seva Vanitha President Mrs. Mumtas Zaheer handed over the cheque.

A special lecture on “Child Management Skills” organized by the MIC Seva Vanitha Branch, was also delivered by Pediatrician Dr. J.M. Nilam on the occasion. A programme for resolution of problematic areas in War Hero families was also launched at the same venue where Ranaviru families could seek redress. 

MIC Regimental Commander Major General A.S.M. Zaheer, several senior officers and other ranks were also present on the occasion.
