First Military Diploma Holders at SLMA Receive Their Certificates

THE COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya attended the first ever military diploma awarding ceremony held at Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), Diyathalawa as the Chief Guest, this evening (31).

Seventy-eight young officers who successfully completed their diplomas in Military studies at SLMA conducted in affiliation with the University of Sabaragamuwa were awarded certificates on the occasion.

Next of Kin of nine qualified officers who made supreme sacrifice in the battlefield after completion of this two year diploma course were also among the recipients.

The Commander addressing diploma holders stressed the importance of academic knowledge for officers in the Army to face future challenges and responsibilities.

Further, he pointed out that his main intention is to develop and transform the Sri Lanka Army to be an academically more professional outfit.

Vice Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University Professor Mahinda S. Rupasinghe, Commandant SLMA Brigadier J.R. Kulathunga, Academic Coordinator Professor Rohana P. Mahaliyanarachchi, Volunteer Force Commander Major General JJPST Liyanage, Military Secretary Major General Milinda Pieris, Director General General Staff Major General A.M. Perera and several other Senior Officers in the Army were also attended the occasion.
