THE NABADA Tank, left abandoned for nearly fifteen years was re-constructed and brought to its former capacity by the Army troops in east in the order to irrigate a wide patch of paddy-fields while enabling a number of farming families to continue with their livelihoods.
History of this village tank runs to the ancient kings era during which the whole east prospered under paddy cultivation. After gaining independence, the then government in 1968 settled people there and established farming colonies, irrigated by this Nabada tank. Later, the tank was renovated in 1970 with the support of administrative and agricultural authorities of the government.
However, as the LTTE activities began to threaten the village life, people had to leave their homesteads in 1985 and found safety homes elsewhere. Since then the tank remained abandoned with thick overgrowns and declining water capacity.
After the whole area was liberated by the Security Forces from the LTTE, Engineer troops of the 22 Division in Trincomalee commenced its renovation and completed it by 16th September 2009.
The Nabada tank when it is filled in full capacity is now able to irrigate 400 acres down Nabadawewa village.
