  • CONFIRMING AUTHORITY CONFIRMS SENTENCE ON GENERAL SARATH FONSEKA

  • Vakarai - Panichchankerni Fishermen Enlightened on Modern Techniques

    Army troops, intending to help fishermen with provision of technical know-how that would match with most modern techniques of fishing, slated to increase their fish harvest, recently conducted a special workshop for local fishermen in Vakarai area under 233 Brigade. Use of old and traditional fishing methods and equipment continuously by fishermen has deprived them of bigger catches and more profits  since they do not have any access to new knowledge on modern technology.

  • US Based Old Nalandians Help MoD Seva Vanitha Unit

    The Nalanda College Old Boys’ Association America in the US (NCOBAA) donated a sum of US$ 6,156 (about Rs. 700,000) towards the “Ranaviru Dudaru Scholarship” fund at Ministry of Defence (MoD) to be used for the education of children in War Hero families. This donation was made recently to both Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, President, MoD Seva Vanitha Unit at a private meeting, held at the official residence.....

  • Both Prosecution & Defence Conclude Evidence in Court Martial - 2

    The Court Martial – 2 hearing charges against the accused, G.S.C Fonseka’s alleged violation of military procurement procedures resumed its sittings at 2.30 p.m. on Monday (16th August). Both Prosecution and Defence concluded lead of evidence of two witnesses in the Army. Cross examination on the 3rd witness is to commence at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday (17th August).

  • Court Martial -“ 2 Examination on 3rd Witness Over


    The Court Martial - 2 hearing charges against the accused, G.S.C Fonseka’s alleged violation of military procurement procedures resumed its sittings at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday (17th August). Both Prosecution and Defence Counsel concluded the examination on the 3rd witness during Tuesday’s hearing. The Court is to resume sittings on 21st August 2010 at 9.00 a.m.
  • U.S. Military Members Arrive in Sri Lanka for Humanitarian, Partnership Mission

    More than 40 U.S. service members arrived in Sri Lanka Saturday (Aug. 14, 2010), to begin a six-day combined medical and engineering training mission with the Sri Lankan government and medical representatives from the Maldives and Mongolia. The mission, called Pacific Angel-Sri Lanka, will be conducted at various sites near Anuradhapura and Puttalam.  It will offer free medical and dental care and also feature repairs and construction to support local schools.

  • LTTE Medical Cadres Trained at Jaffna University


    Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told the Lessons Learnt Commission that the LTTE had used the Jaffna University Medical Faculty to train some its cadres to treat the war wounded. He said that he had got the opportunity to meet three ‘LTTE doctors’ now undergoing rehabilitation at Senapura rehabilitation centre.
  • Govt to Return Civilian Land


    The civilian lands acquired for security purposes in the Jaffna peninsula would be reduced and would be given to owners while others whose lands have to be kept to maintain certain essential security establishments would be provided either compensation or alternative land, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said testifying before the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission yesterday. He said that the Government aims for a gradual reduction of its military presence in the former conflict affected North to be replaced by the Police.

  • Sri Lankan Peace Keepers Put up New Open Cinema Theatre

    Haiti-based Sri Lanka’s UN Peace Keeping contingent, SRIBAT made an impressive contribution to the entertainment of the officers and other ranks serving the mission when the SRIBAT constructed an open cinema theatre in the SRIBAT Headquarters premises in Leogane. The entire construction was carried out by Sri Lanka Engineers serving the mission in Haiti on the instructions of the SRIBAT Commanding Officer Colonel A M R Dharmasiri.
