Sri Lankan Peace Keepers Put up New Open Cinema Theatre

Haiti-based Sri Lanka’s UN Peace Keeping contingent, SRIBAT made an impressive contribution to the entertainment of the officers and other ranks serving the mission when the SRIBAT constructed an open cinema theatre in the SRIBAT Headquarters premises in Leogane.

The entire construction was carried out by Sri Lanka Engineers serving the mission in Haiti on the instructions of the SRIBAT Commanding Officer Colonel A M R Dharmasiri. The open theatre with a permanent screen, fixed was inaugurated after lighting the traditional oil lamp as both officers and other ranks burst into applause.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan troops conducted one more medical clinic on 10th August 2010 for the benefit of refugees, housed at ‘Le refugees opphellins Martissant and Bizoton 51 in Killik, Haiti’ (centre for refugees). Over 150 children in the centre were given medical treatment by medical personnel in the SRIBAT. Similarly, Sri Lankan troops during August 9 - 14 distributed food parcels and meal packets among earthquake-affected refugees. Over 650 refugees enjoyed Sri Lankan flavour as cooking had been done in Sri Lankan style.

In the meantime, SRIBAT senior officers recently attended the customary UN medal parade ceremony of Haiti-based Korean Peace Keeping contingent.
