  • Army Troops Give Away Their Own Daily Ration Packets To Flood Victims

    Treating them with generosity and magnanimity, East-based Army troops in their hundreds were extending their  humanitarian services further, offering their own food rations to flood victims as of Thursday (10) afternoon as per direct instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who has given a free hand to his troops to meet with the challenge. Thoppigala, one of the worst affected areas in the Batticaloa district with torrential rains wreaking havoc.....

  • SFHQ-W Offers More Humanitarian Assistance to Vavuniya Civilians

    Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the intention of assisting flood victims, resident in the 211 Brigade area conducted a number of humanitarian projects in the past few weeks. In view of the difficulties, faced by flood victims for want of drinking water after their wells went under water,  the SFHQ-W took steps to distribute more than five hundred drinking water bottles among those victims residing in and around Jaffna junction at Akkara-8 area.

  • Mannar Troops Restore Damaged Roads & Get Rid of Carcasses

    Mannar troops who acted fast and responded to the devastating flood catastrophe a few weeks ago completed repairs to Mannar-Murukkan road and made it once again motorable within a few days on the instructions of the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W). During recent torrential rains, several road patches along Mannar-Murukkan road, Madu-Parappakadattan road and two more roads submerged in flood waters and were finally damaged.

  • SFHQ-KLN Distributes Bicycles & Initiates Pre-School Projects

    A stock of 125 bicycles and 150 packets of dry rations were recently distributed among the underprivileged at Akkarayanakulam and Ambalnagar areas in 632 Brigade under the Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN). The 632 Brigade under Task Force - 3 at first identified those underprivileged families in those areas with the support of respective Grama Seva officials.

  • Area Headquarters Kandy Becomes 111 Brigade Headquarters

    The Area Headquarters, Kandy has been re-named as the 111 Brigade Headquarters, Kandy with effect from 30th January 2011. The previous Area Headquarters was first founded on 10th January 1972 as the Central Commander’s Headquarters considering security developments in the Central hills at that point of time. It was initially commanded by Colonel E.J Divitotawela.

  • 23 Division Troops Clean Up Hospital & Offer Lunch

    Army troops serving 23 Division in Poonani under the Security Forces Headquarters, East on account of Navam Poya day carried out a Sharamadana (community project) to clean up the Welikanda government hospital premises and provide them with lunch. A group of about 50 officers and soldiers took part in the project on the instructions of the 23 Division Commander. Troops completely cleaned up the premises and took steps to wash the floors of the wards in the hospital on Thursday (17).

  • Wanni Headquarters Makes Offerings to Sri Maha Bodhi Sapling

    The Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi sapling, expected to be planted at Bodhgaya, India to coincide with the forthcoming 2600 Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi (enlightenment of the Buddha) anniversary, was recently taken to the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) for veneration of the troops serving the area.

  • A Warm Reception Welcomes Cycling Boy Scouts in Wanni

    Boy scouts cycling from Point Pedro to Dondra Point in the South with the objective of further promoting goodwill among different ethnicities had a sojourn in Vavuniya to be received in a warm welcome. This national Boy Scout cycling tour, comprised of more than 111 participants reached Vavuniya after covering Kilinochchi-Mankulam road having started off from Point Pedro, Jaffna on 14th February.

  • Bangladesh's Army Chief General Mubeen Arrives in Colombo

    General Mohammed Abdul Mubeen ndc psc, Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff, at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart, arrived in Sri Lanka Wednesday (23) early morning on a five-day goodwill visit. Beating of Magul Bera (auspicious drums) and a traditional ceremonial reception at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, greeted the visiting Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General Mohammed Abdul Mubeen, Mrs Begum Syeda Sharifa Mubeen and the delegation....
