Mannar troops who acted fast and responded to the devastating flood catastrophe a few weeks ago completed repairs to Mannar-Murukkan road and made it once again motorable within a few days on the instructions of the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W).
During recent torrential rains, several road patches along Mannar-Murukkan road, Madu-Parappakadattan road and two more roads submerged in flood waters and were finally damaged. As a result, traffic on those roads was stalled since a few roads had also lost their culverts.
54 Division troops attending to urgent repairs replaced the damaged culvert with a new metal bridge and facilitated the movement of traffic and road users within two days. Similarly, all potholes and other damaged sections on roadways were repaired, restoring routine transport network in the area.
Meanwhile, Army troops serving the 54 Division disposed a large stock of carcasses of dead oxen, goats, dogs, buffaloes and other animals, died in the recent floods as they were posing a health hazard to civilians living in those areas.
