  • Newly-Resettled Civilians in 55 Division Educated on HIV & STD


    Veththalaikerny-based 55 Division Headquarters recently organized a one-day awareness workshop on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) with a view to educating civilians and school children in newly resettled areas. Dr. A. Krisvan, Consultant, AIDS Prevention Unit in Colombo and Dr. Ganesalingam, Consultant, AIDS Prevention Unit in Jaffna delivered lectures in Tamil language. Dr. N. Edirisinghe delivered lectures in Sinhalese language for the benefit of soldiers serving the 55 Division.....

    Just a day before the 64th Independence Day celebrations at Anuradhapura, Chief of Defence Staff, tri-service commanders, Inspector General of the Police and Director General, Civil Defence Force, inspected the final rehearsals of the military parade, scheduled to accord the salute to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces.     President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the second day (February 5) of the 6th 'Deyata Kirula' exhibition at Oyamaduwa, Anuradhapura after opening the day to the public visited the stalls, put up by tri-services.  Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army greeted the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his entering the Army stall, replete with a host of Army equipment, ordnance and other exhibits.
