CDS, Tri-Service Commanders &;amp; IGP Inspect Last Minute Parade Arrangements at Anuradhapura

Just a day before the 64th Independence Day celebrations at Anuradhapura, Chief of Defence Staff, tri-service commanders, Inspector General of the Police and Director General, Civil Defence Force, inspected the final rehearsals of the military parade, scheduled to accord the salute to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Respective commanders, IGP closely watched the flow of the parade and gave necessary instructions for improvement in conversation with related commanding officers and others, responsible for its conduct.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya after his inspection tour, visited Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweli Seya, Lankaramaya and Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Viharaya and met Chief Incumbents in those sacred places.

His first stop was at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya where he called on the Atamastanadhipathi, Chief Incumbent Ven Pallegama Sri Siriniwasabhidana Nayaka Thero and received his blessings.

Afterwards, the Commander met the Chief Incumbent, Ven Pallegama Sri Hemarathana Nayaka Thero at Ruwanweliseya and paid respect to the venue. Ven Nugatenne Pangnananda Thero, Incumbent at Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Viharaya during the Commander’s visit to his temple, exchanged views on the forthcoming Independence Day arrangements and related development work in the Rajarata.

As the final leg of the day’s programme, the Commander visited the newly opened ‘Abimansala’ at Anuradhapura where permanently dependent War Heroes from the North Central Province (Rajarata) are housed.
