  • Bangladesh Army Chief Bids Goodbye

    General Md Abdul Mubeen, Chief of Army Staff Bangladesh after successful completion of his five-day stay in Sri Lanka left for his country early Monday (28) morning. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch on the eve of the departure of the Bangladesh delegation visited them at the hotel and bade farewell to them. Bangladesh delegation was comprised of the Chief of Army Staff General Md Abdul Mubeen, Mrs Begum Syeda Sharifa Mubeen, Brigadier General Mohammad Humayun Kabir.......

  • Army Troops Restore & Reopen War Damaged Wanni Church

    Sri Lanka Army troops serving the 61 Division under the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W), in collaboration with the sponsorship provided by donors, completed the renovation of the St. Doroti church in Periyapandivirichchan, Madu and officially handed over to the clergy on Saturday (26). The church, venerated much by the community in the area remained partly destroyed and badly damaged as a result of terrorist violence in the past few years before May 2009.

  • SFHQ-MLT Holds Pinkama to Bless Army

    An all night Pirith chanting ceremony to invoke blessings on the Army and transfer merits on its fallen War Heroes was held recently at Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu. The alms were also served to members of the Maha Sangha, the following day to coincide with the event. The Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu and a large number of senior officers and other ranks attended the ceremony.

  • Troops Organize Dental Camp for Students

    With the support of the mobile medical unit at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, 521 Brigade troops in Point Pedro recently organized a dental care camp at the Kudathanai Government School in order to educate students on dental care and oral health. Dr Kumaran and Dr Sairuf of the Manthikai hospital, assisted by Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and the nursing staff from the Manthikai hospital conducted a series of awareness programmes among those students.

  • Gajaba Regiment Opens Its New Physiotherapy & Fitness Centres

    The new Physiotherapy Unit and the Physical Fitness centre of the Gajaba Regimental (GR) Headquarters battalion at Senapura, Anuradhapura, built at a cost of Rs. 5.75 million, raised from Gajaba Supercross and Gajaba Mela entertainment projects, were ceremonially declared open recently by Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, Chairperson, Seva Vanitha Branch at Ministry of Defence.

  • New Air Force Commander Calls on Army Commander

    The newly appointed Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Monday (7) morning at Army Headquarters. In accordance with military traditions, on his arrival at the Army Headquarters, he inspected the Guard Turn Out and received the Guard of Honour salute, accorded by soldiers of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment.....
