The countdown to the three-day long international seminar, ‘Defeating Terrorism – The Sri Lankan Experience’, expected to take place in Colombo during May 31st - June 2 began on Monday (7) when the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya inaugurated the official online website of the seminar, www.defseminar.lk during a brief ceremony.
The seminar that expects to share the ocean of knowledge the Sri Lanka Army has gained in the defeat of LTTE terrorism is to be attended by representatives of more than 54 countries and different organizations.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya soon after the launch of the seminar website, www.defseminar.lk disclosed the status quo with regard to the preparations of the seminar.
‘We have already received a good response from many countries and our ambassadors in those capitals are directly in touch with respective Armies for participation. 54 countries have been invited to the seminar. Both Sri Lankan Airlines and Colombo Galadari Hotel, the venue for the seminar are sponsoring this international event and the Army is grateful to both of them. The proceedings will receive a live web casting,’ the Commander noted in his brief to the Media.
The seminar, the first of its kind ever held in Sri Lanka by the Army, would focus largely on counter measures against global terrorism, terrorist trends, predominance of both political and military efforts, rapid nation building measures, emerging threats to national and international security concerns, ground realities, global impact, potential future threats, direct and indirect interventions, transcending beyond traditional approaches, linkage with traditional approach, research and theory, counter insurgency campaigns and measures, needed for managing and countering, etc.
A special panel presenting the Sri Lankan Experience will share their knowledge on Counter Insurgency and enumerate contributory factors related to the military defeat of the world’s most ruthless terrorist organization in the world.
