Troops Organize Dental Camp for Students

With the support of the mobile medical unit at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, 521 Brigade troops in Point Pedro recently organized a dental care camp at the Kudathanai Government School in order to educate students on dental care and oral health.

Dr Kumaran and Dr Sairuf of the Manthikai hospital, assisted by Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and the nursing staff from the Manthikai hospital conducted a series of awareness programmes among those students. On an initiative taken by the Civil Affairs Unit, a stock of tooth brushes and toothpaste was donated among those students at Kudathanai Government School. Senior Army officers, Hindu priests, prominent citizens, parents and other invitees attended the occasion.

Meanwhile, hundreds of soldiers serving the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J) received blessings of the God Shiva during a special Pooja at the ancient Naguleshwaram temple in Keeramalai, Jaffna on Friday (25).

Friday’s Pooja sponsored by Army troops was performed by Ven. Raja Raja Sri K Naguleshwaram Kurukkal, Head Priest and attended by many other devotees as well.

Commander Security Forces, Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, General Officers Commanding of Division Headquarters, Brigade and Unit commanders, officers and soldiers and members of civil staff made offerings on the occasion.

The ceremony will come to an end with the water cutting ritual on 3rd March at Keeramalai sea.

Naguleshwaram is one of the four main Shiva temples, built by the King Vijaya in the four corners of the island for the country’s protection. Koneshwaram in Trincomalee, Thirukethishwaram in Mannar and Chandra Sri Naguleshwaram in Kirinda are other three temples. However, Chandra Sri Naguleshwaram temple in Kirinda has been washed away due to sea erosion many years ago.
