A mobile dental caravan with two surgery units, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst of Australia was formally delivered to the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya by Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Colombo Fort-District 3220 on Tuesday (8).
The gift of the dental caravan to the Army, worth over Rs. 10 million was made possible following initiatives taken by both Dr Ajith Polonnowita (Australia) and Major (Retd) Ravi De Silva.
Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Colombo Fort-District 3220, Messrs Hermon Bin Ahmed, Placidus Gomez, Chaminda De Silva, Piyal Goonetillake, U.G.B Gopallawa, Kalinga Pelpola, Deepal Pettawadu, Imitiyaz Ismail, Ravi De Silva and the ladies, Shyamika Silva and Susheni Ranatunge were associated with the symbolic hand-over of this spacious dental caravan to the Army for the use of Army personnel.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army symbolically accepting the donation from the Rotarian, Mr Placidus Gomez unveiled a special plaque inside the mobile unit and declared it opened.
The brief ceremony on the occasion was addressed by the Adjutant General and a representative of the Rotarians.
Major General A. L. R Wijethunge, Deputy Chief of Staff, Army Headquarters, Army Medical Advisor, Major General S.H Munasinghe, Director Dental Services, Brigadier V.K Jayasinghe and several senior Army officers were present at the occasion.
