  • Lions take the lion\'s share in wrestling

    The lions in the Army took away the lion\'s share in the recently concluded Army Wrestling Championship for the second successive year beating seven Regiments that vied in the encounter displaying their strength of muscles.
  • MAJOR GEN SARATH FONSEKA, NEW SLAVF COMMANDANT TAKES OFFICE

    Major General G. S. C Fonseka RWP RSP rcds psc, who hitherto functioned as Commander Security Forces, Jaffna assumed office as new Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on Tuesday (09 December 2003) amidst blessings of religious dignitaries and Senior Officers who graced the simple but dignified ceremony. His relinquishment as Commander Security Forces, Jaffna was in line with his seniority in service to receive this prestigious appointment as Commandant (SLAVF). He succeeds Major General A. M. C.W. B. Seneviratne USP ndc psc, who recently took office as Deputy Chief of Staff.
  • 53rd Anniversary of Army Engineers Celebrated

    The Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers celebrated its 53rd anniversary on 9th November 2004. Since their inception of Corps, the Sri Lanka Engineers have rendered a yeoman service to the Sri Lanka Army and to the country at large. They have successfully carried out numerous military operational tasks as well as a large number of major national development projects.
  • Army Special Forces Grab Tae Kwon do Championship

    Special Forces of the Sri Lanka Army, true to their widely recognized talents in the field of warfare and elsewhere, marked a new record on Tuesday (30) when they were adjudged the Champions in the Inter-Regiment Tae Kwon Do Championship – 2004 (Novices) division, held at Army Headquarters grounds.
  • New Secretary Defence assumes duties

    Major General A. K Jayawardhana (Retd) RWP RSP USP rcds psc who hitherto held the office of the Governor for North & East, was appointed the new Defence Secretary, Ministry of Defence with effect from 01st December 2004 after retirement of Mr. Cyril Herath.
  • Russian diplomats tour Jaffna

    Sri Lanka based Russian Embassy\'s Defence Coordinator for Army, Navy and Air Force, Colonel V. Popev, and the Secretary to the Russian Air Force, Captain K. Yuhornik were on a three-day tour to Jaffna peninsula last week. The formal visit, meant to learn more about ground situation as regards security, development and civil life commenced on 25th November and continued till 27th November 2003.
  • Amnesty for Army Deserters

    THE ARMY has declared an Amnesty period for all deserters and others Absent Without Official Leave. The amnesty will start on November 12 and end on November 25, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. This amnesty is applicable to soldiers who had left the Army on or after November 1, 2004.

    THE LTTE ON THURSDAY lamented the \'official silence\' of Sri Lanka\'s peace broker Norway on last week\'s killing of the group\'s political chief, a spokesman said. Tamil Tigers\' political chief, S.P. Tamilselvan, was killed when the air force bombed a communications center in rebel-held northern Kilinochchi district.
