Lions take the lion\'s share in wrestling

The lions in the Army took away the lion\'s share in the recently concluded Army Wrestling Championship for the second successive year beating seven Regiments that vied in the encounter displaying their strength of muscles.

Wrestlers from Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment , Sri Lanka Artillery , Sri Lanka Engineers, Sri Lanka National Guard, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Ordnance Corps, Sri Lanka General Service Corps, and Corps of Military Police were in the fray at Panagoda Army Cantonment when they met together for the finals.

In the light weight class category, ten places out of eleven events were won by Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment after recording sixty nine points in total. The wrestlers from Artillery emerged the second but only collecting seventeen points . Engineers became the third with sixteen points.

The Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment which won the overall championship was again blessed when seven of its wrestlers were qualified to represent SAF games in the future. This was a remarkable achievement for the Sinha Regiment. Sinha Wreslters, very much stimulated by their series of victories in the recent past are now preparing themselves for the forthcoming Defence Services Wrestling Tournament.

Major General T. T. R de Silva, Overall Operations Command Colombo graced the occasion as Chief Guest and distributed certificates and prizes to the winners. Army Wrestling Committee, Chairman Colonel V.U.B Nananaykkara, vice Chairman Major U J Kotuwegedara and several senior Officers took part in the prize giving ceremony.
