Sri Lanka based Russian Embassy\'s Defence Coordinator for Army, Navy and Air Force, Colonel V. Popev, and the Secretary to the Russian Air Force, Captain K. Yuhornik were on a three-day tour to Jaffna peninsula last week.
The formal visit, meant to learn more about ground situation as regards security, development and civil life commenced on 25th November and continued till 27th November 2003.
During their stay in Jaffna, they visited areas under 51, 52 and 55 Divisions and reviewed security situation after they were briefed by respective Security Forces authorities.
The visitors also held a discussion with the Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna Major General Sarath Fonseka on 26th November morning before they flew back to Colombo, the following day.
