Amnesty for Army Deserters

THE ARMY has declared an Amnesty period for all deserters and others Absent Without Official Leave.

The amnesty will start on November 12 and end on November 25, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. This amnesty is applicable to soldiers who had left the Army on or after November 1, 2004.

There will be no punitive action and they can re-join the Army with the rank held at the time of desertion. This offer is also applicable to those who had left the Army during the training period.

They can report to the respective regimental centres or in the case of trainees, to the respective camps. Identity documents are required. (Courtesy: Daily News)
