Army Moments

Fallen War Heroes of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF), who fought against LTTE terrorists during 1987 - 1990 in Sri Lanka, were commemorated and their sacrifices remembered at the Indian Peace Keeping Force Monument in Palaly on Friday, 15 August 2025, to coincide with the Independence Day of India.


Brigadier S. Wijesiriwardane RWP RSP of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry assumed duties as the 34th Director Movement of the Directorate of Movement at Army Headquarters on 14 August 2025.


The Gajaba Regiment commemorated the 33rd Death Anniversary of its founding father, the late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne RWP RSP VSV USP psc, under the guidance of the Colonel of the Regiment and Commander, Security Forces (West) Major General U.K.D.D.P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, with the participation and support of serving and retired Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks on 8 August 2025.


Colonel Amanda Johnston, Defence Advisor to the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka, together with Major Chris Fowler, the Assistant Defence Advisor, conducted an official visit to the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) in Embilipitiya on 11 August 2025.


Major General G.A.T. Godewatte RWP RSP of the Gajaba Regiment assumed duties as the 33rd General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 53 Infantry Division (Reserve Strike Force) on 08 August 2025. Upon arrival, he was accorded a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour. Afterwards, he planted a sandalwood sapling in front of the office premises and addressed the troops of the 53 Infantry Division (RSF). Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the event.


The 33rd Commemoration of Late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa was held on 08 August 2025 at the Denzil Kobbekaduwa Memorial Statue in Anuradhapura. Major General P.R Pathiravithana USAWC psc, Director General General Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC), attended the event as the Chief Guest. Madam Lali Kobbekaduwa, spouse of the late Lieutenant General, together with members of the Kobbekaduwa family, joined the event as special invitees.
