Swift and precise actions based on credible information provided by the Sri Lanka Army Intelligence has led to two major joint operations resulting in the seizure of heroin and wallapatta (Gyrinops walla), as well as the arrest of several suspects involved in illegal trafficking activities. The operations were conducted on 6 and 8 November 2025 in the Southern Province.
On 08 November 2025, Officers from the Colombo Organised Crimes Division, acting on intelligence provided by Army sources, conducted a joint raid in the Mitiyagoda, Godagama area. The operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects in possession of 5 kilograms and 420 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs. 75 million.
In addition, the authorities seized Rs. 10,811,500.00 in cash, believed to have been earned through drug trafficking.
Further investigations and legal proceedings are being conducted by the Galle District Police Anti-Narcotics Unit.
Meanwhile, another successful operation was conducted on 06 November 2025 in the Kotapola area, Matara, following intelligence provided by the Army Intelligence Unit. The joint raid, executed in coordination with Deniyaya Wildlife Officers, led to the arrest of three residents from the Deniyaya area found in possession of 110 kilograms and 450 grams of wallapatta, valued at over Rs. 662 million.
