  • Arrangements for Army Anniversary & Army Day Get Underway

    Elaborate arrangements are now underway to mark the forthcoming 62nd Army Anniversary and Army Day (October 10) under the direction of Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, giving pride of place to religious observances. The precursor to the commemorative events, the inaugural Army Flag blessing ceremony at the most sacred Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi precincts with the participation of the Commander of the Army will take place on October 1, 2011 as is the practice every year.

    Those who made it to the BMICH on Friday (2) evening were treated to a perfect treat of unique and engaging classical music as Kalashuri Amarasiri Peiris ‘Kanyavi’ went on the boards to a packed audience of music-lovers. The musical evening, organized by 1 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps on behalf of Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps Seva Vanitha Unit featured a rare contribution of variety of classical and Ragadhari music, made extremely popular by the likes of Amarasiri Peiris.

  • Jaffna Civil Affairs Office Organizes Free Distribution of Cattle & Exercise Books


    Fostering friendship and goodwill that exists between the Security Forces and the people of Jaffna further, the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna recently organized free distribution of 11 cattle among farmers in Iyakkachchi and Tharmankerny areas and exercise books among school children. The Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office of the Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters took the initiative in this connection as part of their community-oriented projects.
     
  • Army Boxers Qualify for World Boxing Championship Tournament


    Three Army Boxers representing Sri Lanka’s National Team are to take part in the World Boxing Championship, scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan between 22 September - 10 October, 2011. Private W.A.C.I Perera of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (under 49 kg weight category), Lance Corporal S.R.P Ranaveera of Gajaba Regiment (under 52 kg weight category) and Corporal W.R.T Weerakkody of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (under 56 kg weight category) who excelled during the pre-boxing tournament.....
     
  • Army to Go High Tech; Commander Commissions New Voice / Data Network Facility For The First Time In The Army

    The Army, geared to go hand in hand with the fast developing technological innovations worldwide established its own Voice/Data Network covering more than thirty Directorates and Branches at the Army Headquarters, six Security Forces Headquarters, fourteen Divisions/Task Forces and twenty-two Regimental Headquarters, to start with. This Voice/Data Communication Network, a visionary concept, mooted by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, is to cover island-wide all Army formations within a few weeks.

  • 'Ex-Cormorant Strike II - 2011' Conducts Simulated Hostage Rescue Mission

    The ongoing three-week long joint military Exercise, ‘Cormorant Strike II - 2011’ in Trincomalee, led by the Army on Saturday (03) had its one of the most daring feats, ‘Hostage Rescue Mission’ in the McHeyzer Stadium in the presence of a distinguished gathering of invitees, including the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. The three-week long ‘Ex - Cormorant Strike II - 2011’, comprised of about 4000 of Army, Navy and Air Force Officers and Other Ranks.....

  • Computer Training Programme for Kilinochchi Army Personnel Ends


    The third phase of the Computer Training programme for all ranks serving the Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) ended recently after the participants were awarded proficiency certificates. The SFHQ-KLN conducted similar training courses for all Army personnel in the past and such programmes were supported by Orient Academy Pvt Ltd at the request of the SFHQ-KLN. Forty Army personnel followed the course which ended early in the month.
