  • Six More New Houses to Come Up at Veheratenna


    Courtesy Dr D.T Gamage, a scholar expatriate, based in Australia, six more resettled villagers in Veheratenna are to receive new houses, following initiatives taken by the Security Forces Headquarters – Wanni (SFHQ-W).  Laying of foundation stones for the project took place on Monday (21) during a simple ceremony, attended by the sponsor and Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W.
  • Army Court of Inquiry on Alleged Misconduct in Haiti Begins


    The five-member Court of Inquiry (CoI), convened by the Commander of the Army to investigate into a recent alleged sexual misconduct by a member of the Sri Lankan UN Peace Keeping Mission contingent  in Haiti (MINUSTAH), has begun in close co-operation with UN Military Police in Leogane, Haiti.   • Championship in Weight-Lifting Goes to Army Novices


    Sri Lanka Army weight-lifters won the overall Novices Weight-Lifting Championship at the recent National Novices Weight-Lifting Tournament, held at Young Members Christian Association (YMCA) auditorium in Kandy. Army weight-lifters emerged champions by beating 5 other teams, Rivi Sanda College Sports Club, Kegalle Weight-Lifting Sports Club, Polonnaruwa Weight Lifting Sports Club, Salalihini Sports Club and the YMCA team in Kandy.

  • Major General Udumalagala (Retd) Passes Away


    Major General Susil Udumalagala RSP Ldmc (Retd) of Gemunu Watch of the Army passed away on Thursday (24) night after a long illness. Major General Udumalagala after an illustrious career retired from service in February this year. His remains, now lying at Jayaratne Florists will be taken to his residence at Ekala after 12 noon on Saturday (26). His cremation will take place on Wednesday (30) in Galle.

  • Troops Donate Blood to Vavuniya Hospital


    More than 113 officers and other ranks serving the 221 Brigade in Vavuniya donated blood for use of patients at Vavuniya Hospital during an arrangement at Provincial Hospital - Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) on Wednesday (23). At the request of the Blood Bank of Vavuniya Hospital, the programme was organized under the guidance of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W and with the support of medical officers of the Vavuniya Blood Bank.
