  • 'Wasantha Geetham -“ 2010' Entertains Vavuniya Civilians

    SCARS of the destructive terrorism are fast entering history as ordinary civilians in Vanni are now geared to lead a new turn of life with the restoration of law and order at the conclusion of the war that plagued their lives for over two decades. The 611 Brigade under Security Forces Headquarters Vanni, realizing the importance of promotion of civil-military relations on Tuesday (December 29) organized a mammoth variety musical show, “Wasantha Geetham – 2010” at Pudukulam Vidyalaya (school) premises in Vavuniya.

  • Commando Regiment Marks X'mas

    THE Commando Regiment Seva Vanitha under the guidance of its President Mrs. Judith Rajapaksa, organized a Christmas celebration at Jupiter Ground, Negombo on 19th December 2009 for entertainment of children of War Heroes in the Commando Regiment.  All the children participated in this event were given away school bags and gift parcels with the sponsorship of Uniliver Company. The DSI Company offered gift vouchers, worth Rs. 500/= each. The Hemas Company donated a Mountain bicycle to be given away after the lottery Draw.

  • Nepalese Staff College Students Visit Army Headquarters

    A DELEGATION of 25 trainee military officers following the Staff Course in Nepal’s Staff College, led by its Commandant Brigadier General Shyam Krishna Adhikari visited Colombo Army Headquarters this morning (5) as part of their study tour. During the visit, the visiting Brigadier General Shyam Krishna Adhikari called on Sri Lanka Army’s Chief of Staff Major General Mendaka Samarasinghe at his office.....

  • SFHQ (KLN) Facilitates Resettlement & Re-commencement of Schools

    SECURITY FORCES Headquarters, Kilinochchi ( SFHQ-KLN) by the year end on 31st December has been able to resettle 3037 displaced civilians in the district and commence function of seventeen government schools after renovations. In the aftermath of de-mining work carried out by Army de-miners, the SFHQ (KLN) on the instructions of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFHQ-(KLN), in coordination with the government’s Uthuru Wasanthaya (Northern Spring) programme, took necessary steps to resettle those 3037 civilians of 920 families in their original places of residence.

  • 23 Division Troops Conduct Social Services

    TROOPS stationed in the East that come under 23 Division often conduct social services to help the public in those areas. Such projects help improve public relations with the troops and the people living in the area. The Sri Gemunu Pre-school in Sinhapura Mahaweli area that comes under 231 Brigade was cleaned by the troops belonging to 231 Brigade on 05th January 2010. On the same day (05), troops of 233 Brigade conducted another cleaning project at Madurankulam Vidyalaya situated in the Brigade area.

  • Commander Calls on Ven Elle Gunawansa Thero

    LIEUTENANT General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army called on Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero, Incumbent at Dharmayathanaya, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 Wednesday (6) morning and commended him for his support to the Army. During cordial discussions, the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jayasuriya praised the monk for his initiative in launching a signature campaign to be sent to United Nations Human Rights Council on behalf of all War Heroes.

  • Armed Forces Continue to Receive Travel Facility

    CONTRARY to some wrong media reports, members of the Security Forces continue to possess their free bus travel pass, a perk that has been offered exclusively to them and the Police, the Army Headquarters announced. The Army has neither withdrawn nor cancelled the bus pass that has been issued to its soldiers and officers including disabled ones as stated in those fabricated and false reports. In fact, travel facilities to Army personnel on the contrary have been increased effective from January 1st with the re-launch of the liberty bus service for provincial destinations.

  • A 9 Road Fully Opened for 24 Hr Travel

    RESTRICTIONS hitherto remained for travel at night along A 9 Jaffna-Kandy road have been removed, effective from today (6). Accordingly, all A 9 road users can travel freely both day and night without any restrictions as it is the practice elsewhere in the island.     

  • Parents of War Heroes Receive Their Due from MoD

    MINISTRY of Defence, in compliance with new regulations on payment of compensations/pensions to parents of War Heroes, this morning (6) inducted the initial 25% payment scheme to beloved parents of the War Heroes who have laid down their lives for the sake of country’s unitary status and sovereignty.  The occasion was solemn and dignified as some 266 parents of War Heroes in the tri services who assembled at Panagoda Army Cantonment gymnasium walked to the Chief Guest, Defence Secretary Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, for receipt of the first 25% installment of the payment.

  • New TV Transmission Station Opened Under Uthuru Wasanthaya

    A SPECIAL ceremony was conducted on Wednesday (6) in Palaly, Jaffna in connection with the inauguration of the new TV relay station for transmission of ITN, Rupavahini, Channel Eye, Wasanthan TV and Prime TV channels in the peninsula.The construction was carried out under the patronage of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information under the government’s Uthuru Wasanthaya programme, headed by senior advisor to HE the President Mr. Basil Rajapaksa (MP).
