SFHQ (KLN) Facilitates Resettlement &;amp; Re-commencement of Schools

SECURITY FORCES Headquarters, Kilinochchi ( SFHQ-KLN) by the year end on 31st December has been able to resettle 3037 displaced civilians in the district and commence function of seventeen government schools after renovations.   

In the aftermath of de-mining work carried out by Army de-miners, the SFHQ (KLN) on the instructions of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFHQ-(KLN), in coordination with the government’s Uthuru Wasanthaya (Northern Spring) programme, took necessary steps to resettle those 3037 civilians of 920 families in their original places of residence. Those people were resettled in KODDAIKADIYAKULAM, THENNIYANKULAM, KALVILAN, TUNUKKAI, ALANKULAM, YOGAPURAM WEST, YOGAPURAM CENTER, THIRUNAGAR, AMAPALAPERUMALKULAM, AMITHAPURAM, PALAIYAMURUGANDY, IYANKANKULAM, UYILANKULAM, THERANKANDAL, MALLAVI, ANINCHIYANKULAM, PUKALENTHINAGAR, PALINAGAR, YOGAPURAM EAST and PARATHINAGAR areas under the SFHQ (KLN) after providing basic needs, such as roofing sheets, dry rations, kitchen utensils, agricultural equipment and a cash donation to each family for livelihood. Transport facilities for carriage of their luggage were also provided by the Army depending on the requirement of each family.  

 

Early as the first week of November, the SFHQ (KLN) completed renovation and repairs to seventeen schools in Kilinochchi district and made them to function by early December with the support of regional educational authorities.

Those 17 schools are Vannarikulam Central College, Akkarayankulam Maha Vidyalaya, Uyilankulam Maha Vidyalaya, Mallavi Central, Kiranchi Maha Vidyalaya, Nachchikuda Maha Vidyalaya, Iranamadu Maha Vidyalaya, Mulankavil Maha Vidyalaya, Vellankulam Maha Vidyalaya and Yogapuram Maha Vidyalaya.

In addition to the Kilinochchi general hospital which is in full swing now, the Mallavi base hospital, the Kalvilan health center and the Thunukkai central dispensary have been repaired and are now providing health services to Kilinochchi civilians. The base hospital and both health centers were fully renovated and re-equipped before they were officially handed over to regional health authorities.

Similarly, Army troops completely repaired tank bunds, irrigational canals and sluice gates in major irrigational schemes in war-affected areas as the civilians were returning to their homesteads. Irrigational projects thus repaired and renovated include Kunchikulam tank, Chokkankulam tank, Anichchankulam tank, Oddarukattakulam tank, Vadakadukulam tank and several canals, dams and sluice gates. 

The newly re-opened Mallavi-Thunukkai Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) sub depot is now functional with several state buses joining the fleet as of last week.
