LIEUTENANT General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army called on Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero, Incumbent at Dharmayathanaya, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 Wednesday (6) morning and commended him for his support to the Army.
During cordial discussions, the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jayasuriya praised the monk for his initiative in launching a signature campaign to be sent to United Nations Human Rights Council on behalf of all War Heroes. The petition asserts that Sri Lankan armed forces have not in any manner violated human rights in Sri Lanka during the humanitarian operations as alleged in some quarters. The campaign, meant to collect one million signatures has been spearheaded by Ven Elle Gunawansa Thero in support of the armed forces.
The Army Commander told the monk that his campaign would serve a great encouragement and a moral boost to War Heroes.
