  • All Army Heroes Contributed to Army's Success Story in Wanni

    WAR HEROES in the whole of Sri Lanka Army who sweated with gusto over the final outcome of the Wanni Humanitarian Operations that ended in May this year received accolades and parchment scrolls from Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army who paid his unreserved tribute to the determination and valour of all War Heroes in the Army.   A representative gathering of soldiers and officers of all Regiments ranging from a Private to the rank of Major General accepted their parchment scrolls that hail their gallantry....

  • Troops Support Dengue Prevention Project

    TROOPS under command to 234 Brigade in Kalawanchikudi conducted a Dengue prevention campaign on last Saturday (12) between 8.00 a.m. - 1.30 p.m.. The campaign covered the area between Kalawanchikudi centre and Kaludaweli main road in Batticaloa. Commanding officers in the 18th Battalion of Sinha Regiment, two officers and fifty other ranks in cooperation with the Regional Medical Officer and Public Health Inspectors (PHI) took part in the project. About 100 people living in the area also joined in the community project. 

  • Philanthropists Donate School Items to Children

    TWO groups of philanthropists headed by Dr. Mrs Suryakanthi Amarasekara, Director, Sri Jayawardenepura hospital and Mr Rohan Rodrigo arrived in Mankerni under 233 Brigade area on 12th December and donated a stock of educational equipment and accessories to school children in Mankerni area. The donation included books, pens, pencils, sports goods and school bags for eighty students and forty small children in the area. Children, teachers and parents thanked the donors for their generosity and mingled with one another on the occasion. 

  • Joint Troops Salvage Flood-Affected Civilians

    ARMY troops and Sailors in the Navy jointly rushed into action and provided emergency boat services to over 200 trapped civilians who were affected owing to floods in the Kiran lagoon, Batticaloa.  The areas around Kiran lagoon including the main road remained under water for some time as a result of monsoon rains that prevailed in the area. Floods hindered transport services in the area and cut off links between mainland and the villages.

  • President Defends Security Forces

    PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (14) stressed he will never betray the Security Forces and is ready to face any accusation on behalf of the Security Forces that made tremendous sacrifices for the nation. The President was addressing representatives of over 64 Trade Unions at Temple Trees yesterday. He said he will not allow the war heroes to be taken before a war crimes tribunal.  “The forthcoming Presidential Election is a contention between the grateful and the ungrateful,” he said. The President said the country could not have achieved victory over terrorism which claimed thousands of innocent lives.......

  • Vihara Mahadevi Students Build House for Commando Regiment War Hero

    A land donation made by parents of a senior Army Officer enabled an amputee-soldier in the Commando Regiment receive a new house, built with the lavish support extended by exemplary students at Kiribathgoda Vihara Mahadevi Balika Vidyalaya. Mrs Judith Rajapakse, President, Commando Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit ceremonially handed over keys to the newly-erected house at Matale last week in the presence of Mr and Mrs N.C Aluvihare.....

  • Mankulam, Murukkandy Hindu Temple Re-opened for Devotees

    AS HEAVEN of serenity and peace has now returned to the war-ravaged Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu districts, enthusiasm for religious rites and rituals, remained badly affected and dictatorially stopped for years owing to LTTE terrorism is fast visibly blossoming, thanks to the efforts of valiant Security Forces, clergy, civil administrators and the general public in both districts. The special "Kumbabhisheka Pooja" ritual at the famous Thiru Murukkandy Sri Ganapathi Hindu Kovil (temple) at Murukkandy, Mankulam was inducted last Sunday.....

  • New OOC Assumes Office

    THE new Overall Operations Commander (OOC) (Western Province and Puttalam District), Brigadier S.R Manawaduge assumed duties at his office on 10th December 2009 after a brief Buddhist Religious ceremony. Brigadier Manawaduge who accepted the office from his predecessor, Major General A.M Perera is the fourth Commander at OOC office.

  • Troops Provide Assistance to Flood Victims

    TORRENTIAL rains have rendered more than one hundred and ten families in Uriankattu and Sinnattamunai areas under 233 Brigade in the east. One hundred and forty-four civilians, belonging to 41 families have been temporarily housed at Uriankattu Government school for the time being. Another group of 210 affected civilians of  70 families have been provided temporary shelter at Sinnattamunai Vidyalaya with the coordination work done by Army troops considering the emergency circumstances.

  • More Claymores Among Tuesday's Recoveries

    NORTH: ARMY TROOPS during their search and clear operations in the general areas of  PERIYATHAMPANAI, SINNA PANDIPARICHCHAN, SUGANDIPURAM, DEVAPURAM IRAMNAMADU, ADAMPAN, MULLAYAVELI and PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU recovered one hundred and sixty-eight anti personnel mines, seven 60 mm mortar bombs, six 120 mm mortar bombs, thirty-four 81 mm mortar bombs, eleven Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), two hundred and sixty RPG propellers, fifty 81 mm mortar chargers, one claymore mine weighing about 2.5 kg, five claymore mines of 1 kg each, three hundred and seven 81 mm Para bombs, four hundred and sixty rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, 750 lt of kerosene, 53 kg of C-4 explosives, twenty-eight unidentified chemical bottles of 3 liters each ......
