  • JF Packaging Employees Donate One Day Salary for Wellness Resort

    A SUM OF Rs. 100,000/= collected from the day's salary of JF Packaging Pvt Ltd employees was handed over to President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya by Mr. Lakshman De Zoysa, Managing Director of the Company together with several of their executives on Thursday (29) for the use of SVAB's proposed Welfare Resort. Another donation of Rs. 25,090/= for the same purpose was recieved by the President SVAB Mrs. Jayasuriya at the same time.

  • US Ambassador Calls on Army Commander

    THE US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ms. Patricia A Butenis called on the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya this afternoon (03) in his office at Army Headquarters.During her first official meeting with the Army Commander, Ms Butenis learnt more about Army’s involvement in the North and East development work now being carried out by the government, and security updates in those areas.

  • Troops Continue Their Search

    NORTH & EAST: ARMY TROOPS conducted search and clear operations in the general areas of ALANKULAM, IRANAMADU, VISUAMADU, AKKARAYANKULAM and PUTHUKKUDDIYIRUPPU on Tuesday (3) and recovered one T-56 weapon, one T-56 magazine, eight rounds of T-56 ammunition, one Light Machine Gun (LMG), one LMG drum, fifteen hand grenades, one  Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), twenty-six  anti personnel mines, one 81 mm mortar bomb, one 40 mm GL cartridge, ninety-nine locally made 81 mm mortar bombs and one shot gun.

    SECURITY Forces Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) which rendered an invaluable service in the eliminating of LTTE terrorism from the entire east celebrated its 6th birthday on 31st October 2009 in a simple ceremony, organized by all officers and other ranks serving at the Headquarters on the instructions of Security Forces Commander Major General Srinath Rajapaksa.

  • Singaporean Faces US Trial Over LTTE Arms Case

    A SINGAPOREAN opposition party member will be extradited to the United States and tried for allegedly trying to supply arms to the LTTE, officials in Singapore said yesterday. Charges * Conspiring to provide material to LTTE * Possessing firearm in 2006 * Conspired with another Singaporean Businessman Balldev Naidu, 47, is facing six charges including conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organisation and possession of a firearm in 2006, a Court official told AFP. The Singapore Police said Naidu was arrested on September 22 following a US extradition request.

  • President Mahinda Rajapaksa Speaks to Troops & Civilians in Mullaittivu

    PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa, accompanied by a high level entourage including Mr. Lalith Weerathunga, President’s Secretary, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilaka, Commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army and the new Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya this morning (4) visited northern Thunukkai and Mulankavil areas where the President addressed newly resettled civilians and the troops serving Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu Security Forces Headquarters in the North. The entourage, as the first leg of the day’s itinerary arrived at Thunukkai under 65 Division to a rousing welcome, extended by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Major General Athula Jayawardane, Commander Security Forces Kilinochchi, Major General Nandana Udawatta, Commander Security Forces, Mullaittivu and senior officers. President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces inspected the guard turnout, presented in his honour.

  • President Orders Pay Hike for War Heroes

    “AT THE OUTSET, I am pleased to address the true heirs of the victory of our motherland today for the first time. You committed yourselves for three years to fight terrorism that threatened the territorial integrity of the country and its nation for thirty years. I make this opportunity to pay our tribute and gratitude on behalf of the people of all ethnicities for that. There is no argument over the fact that you have dedicated immensely to safeguard the sovereignty of the motherland during this period. We cannot forget that great sacrifices of our War Heroes at the risk of their own lives despite attempts of ridicule and betrayal by some elements.

    NORTH: TROOPS on their search and clear operations in the general areas of WEMPADUKERNI, PARANTHAN, NAYAKKULAM, PUDUMURIPUKULAM, VISUVAMADU and PUTHUKKUDIIRUPPU recovered one T-56 weapon, four T-56 magazines, one hundred and twenty rounds of T-56 ammunition, two pistol magazines, eight rounds of pistol ammunition, ten anti tank mines, ten hand grenades, one Silva compass, one bayonet, one map, one laser target indicator.....

  • The News Regarding the Empty Artillery Shells is False

    THE news item published in the front page of a leading English newspaper regarding a move of the Ministry of Defence to sell 41,000 tons of  the empty mortar shells to Singapore as scrap brass for Rs.150 a kilo despite the normal market price being as high as Rs.350 a kilo, is completely misleading and false. The news article states that mortar shells remain after being fired. However it should be stated that empty mortar shells do not remain after live firing. Those which remain are artillery shells, ammunition used by the armor tanks or some other small arms ammunition.

  • Prabhakaran's Father Also Drew Govt. Pension: Pensions Dept.

    LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran’s father, Velupillai Tiruvenkadam has drawn a monthly pension of Rs. 16,865.63 until his detention last July, a top official of the Pensions Department said yesterday (5). At a news briefing at the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry, Director K.A. Tilakaratne revealed that Mr. Tiruvenkadam had worked in the Department of Railways and Land Reforms Commission prior to his retirement in 1983 had served in Thunukkai as a Land Officer.
