SECURITY Forces Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) which rendered an invaluable service in the eliminating of LTTE terrorism from the entire east celebrated its 6th birthday on 31st October 2009 in a simple ceremony, organized by all officers and other ranks serving at the Headquarters on the instructions of Security Forces Commander Major General Srinath Rajapaksa.
As LTTE atrocities intensified in the area, Sri Lanka Army established this Headquarters as the centre of command in the east and continued to command two Divisions and military formations under command to them while providing administrative and logistic support until it fulfilled its mission by liberating the entire east and its inhabitants from the grip of LTTE terrorists.
At the outset, a Guard of Honour was accorded to Commander SFHQ-(E) Major General Srinath Rajapaksa who, after taking the salute, planted a mango sapling in the premises to mark the SFHQ’s 6th anniversary.
During his address, SF Commander, on behalf of the Sri Lanka Army, paid his tribute to War Heroes who sacrificed their lives and became disable during their noble mission of liberating the east. He also wished fast recovery to those who are still receiving medical treatment due to injuries sustained particularly during the eastern Humanitarian Operation.
Later, Maj. Gen. Rajapaksa posed for a group photograph with officers and other ranks at the SFHQ. The day’s programme culminated with all rank lunch.
