  • More LTTE Explosives Uncovered

    NORTH & EAST: ARMY TROOPS engaged in search and clear operations in the general areas of NETHTHIKULAM, VELLANKULAM, KUNCHUKULAM, PALLIKUDHA, MULLIYAVELI and ANDANKULAM on Sunday (25), recovered two T-56 weapons, eleven hand grenades, eighty-five  Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) links, two MPMG links with hundred rounds of ammunition, sixty-five anti personnel mines, one 120 mm mortar bomb, one 81 mm mortar bomb and three Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG). 

  • Mystery Ship Belongs to Tamil Tigers: Experts

    THE MIGRANT smuggling ship intercepted off the West Coast carrying 76 Sri Lankan men is owned by the outlawed Tamil Tigers and previously smuggled weapons from North Korea to Sri Lanka, says an international expert on South Asia terrorism.It's feared the ship may be the first wave of defeated Tamil Tiger fighters fleeing for safe haven after the end of Sri Lanka's 25-year civil war, says another security expert.   • Indian Experts to Help Speed up Demining in Lanka

    INDIAN Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has directed the Defence Minister to send a team of experts to Sri Lanka to help in speeding up the removal of mines in the war-ravaged Mannar, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts to pave the way for speedy resettlement of uprooted Tamils now living in make-shift camps in Vavuniya. This was stated here on Saturday (24) by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. V. Thangabalu who accompanied the team of DMK and Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu.....

  • Singapore's FM & Justice Minister Moragoda Visit Jaffna Peninsula

    JUSTICE Minister Milinda Moragoda recently visited Jaffna with a group of senior officers of the Ministry, including Major General Daya Rathnayake and Major General (rtd) V R Silva.  They were received by the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General L B R Mark on arrival. The Minister afterwards visited the Court complex in Point Pedro and inquired into the functioning of the judicial system and its lapses, if any

  • Lectures Help Improve Knowledge on History & Psychology

    A SERIES OF LECTURES on History and Psychology were conducted at Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters Indoor Stadium for 4 days commencing 12th October for the benefit of Officers and Other Ranks (ORs) serving the peninsula. Lectures on history for Officers and ORs were conducted by Puravidya Chackrawarthi Ven Ellawala Medhananda Thero (MP) on 12th and 13th October 2009.

  • Visiting Indian Military Officers Learn More of Wanni Operation during Meeting with Army Commander

    A VISITING delegation of Indian military officers who are currently following Higher Command Course of India met Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya this afternoon (26) at Army Headquarters as part of their familiarization with military establishments in Sri Lanka. The delegation, headed by Brigadier Moni Chandi and Brigadier Param Virsingh of the Directing Staff comprised ten senior officers from the Indian Army and three senior officers from the Indian Air Force.   • President to Appoint Committee to Study

    PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to appoint an expert committee within one week to verify the facts behind the allegations against the Sri Lanka Government in the report submitted by the US State Department to the US Congress on incidents during the recent conflict in Sri Lanka, Human Rights and Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said. The Government stance on the report will be announced after the report was made by the committee appointed by the President, he added. He was addressing a media conference held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday to explain the new situation following the submission of the said report.

  • General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University : Making professionals for the Tri-Services

    THE General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy was established in 1981 and elevated to a University in 1986. More than 1,600 undergraduate and 140 postgraduate degrees have been awarded by General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) during the past 28 years. KDU offers nine undergraduate degree programs in Defence Studies and related Post Graduate Degrees. Among them, five degree programs lead to Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Engineering, namely Mechanical, Marine, Electrical and Electronic, Civil and Aeronautical Engineering.

  • Russia's Support During Battle Against Terror Appreciated

    DURING discussions with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey V. Lavrov yesterday, Foreign Minister Bogollagama conveyed the appreciation of the Government of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation for the unstinted support during her fight against terrorism. Minister Bogollagama Russia had helped Sri Lanka not only by condemning terrorism but also by providing tangible support. He said Russia’s assistance had come despite informal pressures exerted by some misguided entities in the international community on her to desist from backing Sri Lanka.
