THE successful culmination of the Army 60th Anniversary celebratory events is attributed to months of hard work, planning, commitment and indefatigable contribution made by a multitude of different sections in the Army and many segments in our society who have been right throughout assisting the Army in numerous ways.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army is pleased to record a deep sense of gratitude to religious dignitaries, His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Secretary to His Excellency the President, Mr. Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka, Senior Retired Officers, Navy and Air Force Commanders for gracing the inaugural ceremonies as Chief Guests, Major General Mendaka Samarasinghe, Chairman Overall Steering Committee for 60th Anniversary celebrations, all Main and Sub Committees, Principal Staff Officers, Directors, all Regiments and Units, Sponsors for the Exhibition and the Army Tattoo, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Department of Posts, Administrative authorities at the BMICH and Kettarama R. Premadasa Stadium, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Police, Government Departments and other agencies for their invaluable support in organizing respective phases in the event, Government Information Department, all print and electronic media agencies and personnel for extensive publicity given for all the events, Newspaper editors and journalists who published special supplements, producers of TV spots, Triad advertising company, all state and private sector institutions and members of the public for their unstinted support and encouragement given to the Army for the smooth conduct of all celebratory phases in this mega commemorative event.
It is needless to repeat that the cooperation extended at all levels for the overwhelming success of this event of national importance that came about just after victories against terrorism, serves a clear re-endorsement of the fact that Sri Lanka Army as the main wing of the armed forces continues to be the country’s main defender of the Nation for generations to come. All that excellent gesture of goodwill is highly appreciated, profusely acknowledged and thanked once again and we believe all of you would support us in the future too with the same spirits.
