  • The Largest Figure Todate: Over 41,000 IDPs Resettled

    THE resettlement of the largest number of Internally Displaced Persons of the North took place yesterday, with 41,685 persons resettled in Vavuniya, Mannar, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi, resettled in 108 Grama Niladhari Divisions of these districts. Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP said though Sri Lanka is a small country, we have been able to resettle a large number of IDPs in a short time though some countries were still not able to resettle displaced persons for years.

  • Army Tattoo Culminates 60th Anniversary Celebrations

    THE year’s mega spectacle, Army Tattoo that displayed undisputed skills of the Sri Lanka Army drew to a close Friday (23) evening bringing  Army’s 60th Anniversary celebratory events to culmination. People in their thousands flocked to the Kettarama stadium everyday to witness this grand show full of gallantry, stunt riding, acrobatics and heroic performances coupled with cultural displays by the Army since the day it was declared open by His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday (17).President’s Secretary Mr. Lalith Weeratunge, the Chief Guest of the final day ceremony was received by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at the VIP entrance who conducted the Chief Guest to the flag post. Hoisting National and Army flags was followed by two minute silence in honour of fallen War Heroes who will ever be remembered by the island nation for their supreme sacrifice.....

    IT has been brought to the notice of the defence authorities that certain pro-LTTE and anti-Security Forces websites continue to burn the midnight oil by way of publishing various concocted stories, replete with hypotheses and utterly false fabricated stories. The latest were a series of purposely planted such stories and emails being published in a website called “Sri Lanka Guardian”, in which a new version to the consequences that led to Prabhakaran’s death has been concocted......
