THE Lottery Draw of the Army 60th Anniversary celebrations took place this morning (23) at the Army Headquarters premises as the Army Tattoo brings down the curtain on celebratory events this evening (23) at Kettarama stadium.
The sale of lottery tickets during the Army Exhibition at BMICH premises (October 3-11) was done in order to raise funds for welfare work of War Heroes. The first three winners in the lottery were drawn by Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Chief of Staff Major General Mendaka Samarasinghe respectively.
The first winner receives a Rs. 1.5 m worth brand new car, the second winner, a Bajaj three-wheeler and the third winner, a 40’ TV (LCD) set. Twenty-five consolation prizes award motorbikes. Senior Army Officers including Deputy Chief of Staff drew tickets for consolation prizes.
