  • LTTE Military Items Continue to Emerge

    NORTH: TROOPS operating in the general areas of NOCHCHIMODDAI, ADAMPAN, VISUAMADU, UDAYARKATTU and PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU conducted search and clear operations in those areas on Thursday (3) and recovered five thousand rounds of T-56 ammunition, one thousand electric detonators, twelve Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), one Light Machine Gun (LMG), two hundred and twenty-two rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition with two links.....

  • Commander Makes His First Visit to East

    PAYING his first visit to the Security Forces Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E), the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on Thursday (3) took stock of the security situation in the province after the eradication of terrorism. The visiting commander was received on arrival by the Commander SFHQ-E Major General Srinath Rajapaksa and several other senior officers. The Commander was accorded a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honor by the soldiers of the Commander’s own regiment, Sri Lanka Armed Corps. At the end of the parade Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya planted a Mango sapling in the SFHQ-E premises to mark his visit to the premises.

  • Major General Hathurusinghe Graduates with Flying Colours at Manila Defense College

    MAJOR GENERAL Mahinda Hathurusinghe was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal - 2009 for his thesis “Strategic Military Victory over LTTE” during his master’s degree course in the National Defence College of the Philippines. Major General Hathurusinghe who followed the Master in National Security Administration course at this Defence College recently received his Gold Medal from Defence Undersecretary Antonio Santos during the graduation ceremony of the 44th Regular Course - Master in National Security Administration (MNSA) in Manila.

  • Army Denies Newspaper Report

    SRI LANKA ARMY as the news report on “The Island” issue of Friday (4) stated, has no whatever proof or any other evidence to affirm any involvement of Japanese experts for clandestine LTTE operations, said to have occurred during and after the Tsunami disaster in 2004. The Army categorically denies having any knowledge on such Japanese involvement in the said report titled “Japanese experts helped LTTE launch submersibles”. Neither the 58 Division has had found any evidence to ascertain launch of such submersibles with Japanese help.

  • Over 800 AP Mines Unearthed

    NORTH: ARMY troops engaged in search and clear operations in the general areas of CHUNDIKULAM,  PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, THAKKULAM and THANDIKULAM recovered four claymore mines, fifteen electric detonators, seven Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), thirteen 60mm mortar bombs, seven hand grenades, four Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) links, eighteen rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, one night vision, three Our Board Motors (OBM), seventy-two LTTE pots, three hundred rounds of MPMG ammunition, one empty MPMG ammunition box, one thousand and thirty-five rounds of T-56 ammunition, nineteen 81 mm mortar bombs on Friday (4).

  • UK Supports Rehabilitation of Ex-combatants

    BRITISH High Commissioner Dr. Peter Hayes and the Head of the International Organization for Migration Mohammed Abdiker yesterday signed an agreement for approximately Rs.17 million of UK’s support towards the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Ex-combatants in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Milinda Moragoda.Minister welcomed the support provided by the British High Commission to the Government of Sri Lanka. The Ministry of Justice and in particular the Commissioner General for Rehabilitation has been working closely with the International Organization for Migration to develop a community oriented demobilization, rehabilitation and reintegration programme.

  • Resettlement of Muslim Families in North at End of Ramazan Festival -“ Northern Governor

    FOUR HUNDRED MUSLIM families will be shortly resettled in the Muslim village of the Salampaikulam in Pampaimadu, Vavuniya, Northern Province Governor Major General G. A. Chandrasiri says.The Governor had given that assurance during a visit to the displaced persons in Salampaikualam village, the Governor’s Office said. These villagers were chased away by the LTTE 20 years ago. Major General Chandrasiri instructed State officials to help recommence cultivation in over 1,000 acres of paddy land which had been abandoned due to the terrorist activities.

  • Physical Strength of Service Personnel more Vigorous than Ever

    PHYSICAL FITNESS stimulated by high morale of our soldiers was one outstanding factor that helped the Army record victories one after the other during the recent humanitarian war. Security Forces Headquarters East (SFHQ-E) not allowing it to die down even after the war was over, recently organized a novel competition to select the strongest teams of the tri services and the Police personnel serving the east. Thirty-four teams of eight men, one officer and seven other ranks, representing three armed forces, Police and Civil Defence Force exhibited their physical strength during this competition consisting of five challenging events.

  • Army Troops & STF Find more LTTE Items

    NORTH & EAST: ARMY troops serving in the general areas of APPEIKACHCHIKULAM, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, PUDUMATHALAN, VELLAMULLIVAKKAL, and MULLAITTIVU recovered one hundred and twenty-four anti personnel mines, one electric mine, three hundred and fifty rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, one pistol and one belt order on Saturday (5). Meanwhile, Special Task Force (STF) troops recovered six hundred and ten anti personnel mines from NELUKKULAM in VAVUNIYA area the same day (5).

  • Area Maps Prepared by LTTE Found

    NORTH: ARMY troops continuing their search and clear operations in the general areas of VISUAMADU, ALANKULAM and KAPPOKULAM on Sunday (6) recovered a stock of sixty-three anti personnel mines, one shotgun with ten cartridges and four hundred and seventeen area maps, prepared by the LTTE.
