  • 15 New Records Made During Inter Regiment Athletic Championship

    THE Inter Regiment Amateur Athletic Championship Tournament 2010 of the Army was conducted at Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama during July 6-7. Major General D.R.A.B. Jayathilaka Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces graced the final day as chief guest. The tournament attended by over 700 athletes representing all Army regiments, saw fifteen new game records made. The Army Services Corps scoring 199 points emerged champions.....

  • Swimming & Water Polo Inter Regiment Championship Concludes

    SRI LANKA Army Inter Regiment Swimming and Water Polo Championship got under way at Army Headquarters Swimming Pool Complex during past two days (July 8-9). Representing 17 Regiments, a record 200 competitors showed their colours and offered a tight challenge against their fellow-swimmers. Disabled War Heroes too participated in this tournament giving a similar neck to neck competition as other ordinary swimmers. 

  • Soldiers Provide Water & Medicine to Katharagama Bound North & East Pilgrims

    HINDU devotees of North and East annually walk to Katharagama to pay homage to God Skanda. This year too they started this hard journey through Kumana Wild life sanctuary last Friday (2). 16th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard under the guidance of Officer Commanding Troops (Ampara) organized water and medicine required for the pilgrims. The essential medical supplies were handed over to Lahugala Medical Officer Dr. Hemamalee.

  • Asin Visits Vavuniya and Jaffna

    South Indian actress Asin Thottumkal who is in Sri Lanka with Bollywood star Salman Khan, to shoot the movie ‘Ready’ visited Vavuniya and Jaffna general hospitals on Sunday with First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa to look into the cataract surgery conducted for people living in welfare camps. Officials from Vavuniya and Jaffna general hospital told Daily Mirror that Asin had interacted with the cataract patients at the hospitals and also seen a cataract surgery performed on a patient in the Vavuniya hospital.

    SRI LANKAN troops serving UN Peace Keeping assignments in Haiti have turned good Samaritans and are busy providing most needed food, water, medicine and relief supplies to a population of over 4075 in historic Jacmel, a city in southern Haiti, affected badly in the January 2010 Haiti earthquake. Street after street of homes and businesses were torn apart in the devastating earthquake and up to 35,000 were feared dead as per official figures.
