THE Inter Regiment Amateur Athletic Championship Tournament 2010 of the Army was conducted at Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama during July 6-7.
Major General D.R.A.B. Jayathilaka Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces graced the final day as chief guest.
The tournament attended by over 700 athletes representing all Army regiments, saw fifteen new game records made.
The Army Services Corps scoring 199 points emerged champions in the tournament and received the trophy from the chief guest. Athletes in the Artillery Regiment scored 155 points and emerged the first-runner up.
In the women’s events, the 3rd Battalion of Women’s Corps clinched the championship scoring 144.5 points and 6th Battalion of Women’s Corps ended up as the runners up.
Lance Bombardier R.M.E.S. Rathnayake of Sri Lanka Artillery was adjudged the best athlete of the tournament. Woman Soldier S D M C Bandara of the 6th Battalion of Women’s Corps was selected as the best woman athlete in the athletic meet.
