  • Abimansala' Construction Work In Progress

    SOLDIERS in the Corps of Engineer Services have undertaken the ground preparation and foundation-laying work at ‘Abimansala’ (Wellness Resort) at Anuradhapura after the foundation-laying stone was laid by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as recent as 15th May 2010. The construction under the ‘Brave Hearts’ project, launched by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) presided by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya is to house totally dependent War Heroes for rest and relaxation.

    THE Buddhist devotional songs (Bakthi gee), a part of the annual Poson festival programme at Army Headquarters organized under the guidance of  the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya is scheduled to be held at Army grounds on 21st and 22nd June evening on a specially constructed stage.

    UNDER the second phase of the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ programme, houses are being built for soldiers and war widows, who have land but no means to build. Sgt. Major W.P. Ariyaratne is a happy man. He is eagerly looking forward to moving into his newly built house with his wife and three children, at the end of this month after long years of roughing it out with parents and in rented housing, while serving at the warfront.

    EIGHTY Tamil school students including those belonging to former so-called  LTTE ‘Mahaveerar’ families in the East had the rare chance of visiting and interacting with the South for the first time in life when they were recently taken on a five-day picnic, organized by the 222 Brigade Headquarters in Jayanthigama, Kantale. Those eighty students, ten teachers and ten parents from remote Sri Sahanpaha Maha Vidyalaya, Ilangathurai Mohoththuwaram Hindu Vidyalaya .........

  • Mullaittivu Buildings Released to Owners as New Security Establishments Erected; Secretary Defence Highlights Importance of Winning Hearts & Minds of Tamil People

    AS ALL KINDS of buildings, belonging to northern people in areas under Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), are now being vested back in legal owners under government’s ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ (Northern Spring) programme, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence, accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy and the Inspector General of Police on Monday (21) visited Mullaittivu and took stock of security requirements in the area.

  • BOTH COURTS MARTIAL CONTINUE PROCEEDINGS

    BOTH FIRST AND SECOND Courts Martial hearing charges against General Sarath Fonseka resumed sittings on Monday (21) respectively at 2.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m., as scheduled.  Witnesses, expected to testify in the first Court Martial are to be called up again on the next date of hearing. Proceedings will resume on 28th June 2010 at 2.00 p.m.

    A PRESENTATION of ‘Poson’ devotional songs, coloured with symbolic events of historic importance was staged at Army Headquarters ground by Army personnel on Monday (21) evening before a galaxy of distinguished guests, including HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, First Lady Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Rajapaksa, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe, et al. The colourful evening, organized by the Army on the directives given by Commander of the Army, included the symbolic depiction of the arrival of Ven Mihindu Thero, Therani Sangamitta in Sri Lanka......
