  • External Affairs Minister & Military Chiefs Attend Weekend Asia-Pacific Security Summit

    A HIGH-LEVEL government delegation, led by Minister of External Affairs Prof G.L Peiris, in the company of Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, during the weekend (June 4 - 6), participated in the Singapore-based International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) organized ‘Asia Security Summit, the Shangri-Dialogue’.

  • Peace Walk From Devundara to Point Pedro

    A PEACE walk has been initiated as an encouragement to War Heroes to mark the dawn of peace in the country on conclusion of the 30 years long war, from Devundara to Point Pedro. The peace walk had proceeded to Puliyankulam in Vavuniya on Wednesday (9) night and proceeded yesterday (10) from Puliyankulam Gajaba Regiment camp.The walk designed for a 28 day duration had already completed 22 days.

  • UN Flag Handed Over to 12th UN Contingent of Sri Lanka Army Proceeding to Haiti

    THE PARADE to hand over the UN flag to the 12th contingent of Sri Lanka Army’s Peace-Keeping Force bound for Haiti on 30th June 2010 for a period of six months was held yesterday (Saturday 12) at Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Headquarters in Ambepussa. The contingent comprising 749 soldiers is to be commanded by Colonel A.M.R  Dharmasiri while Lieutenant Colonel K Liyanage will function as the Second in Command.

  • Army Boxers & Woman Boxers Do Well

    ARMY BOXERS who took part in the Men and Women’s Amateur Boxing Tournament conducted by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka performed exceptionally well. The tournament was conducted for three days (June 5-8) at Royal College, Army boxers displayed excellent power boxing and dominated proceedings throughout the tournament.

  • US Ambassador Receives Briefing

    US ambassador in Sri Lanka Ms. Patricia Butenis who was on a brief visit to Jaffna met Commander Security Forces, Jaffna (SF – J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Tuesday (8) at SF-J Headquarters. Ms. Butenis was briefed on the Army assistance being given to the government’s ongoing development projects in the peninsula by Major General M Hathurusinghe.

  • Jaffna's Ex-Servicemen Felicitated

    A SPECIAL get-together organized by Jaffna-based 51 Division for retired Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who served the Army when those Tamils were young, felicitated them during a special ceremony on 9th June 2010. Those ex-servicemen from Jaffna received a warm welcome on arrival and were able to recall their cherished memories among fellow-workmates.....

  • Jaffna to Receive New Coconut Nursery

    PLANS are underway in Jaffna to set up a nursery for distribution of quality coconut saplings among civilians and planters in the peninsula. Priority in the distribution will be given to resettled families who will get three saplings per family. This was decided during a recent meeting Minister of Plantations Mahinda Samarasinghe has had in Jaffna with senior state officials.
