IN what could be identical to an exemplary move of letting your heart rule your head, a generous Wayamba-based lady has made a magnanimous gesture by donating a 90 perch plot of land in Kurunegala for construction of six houses to six disable War Heroes of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR).
The philanthropist, Mrs Swarnapali Wickramasinghe, mindful of the numerous sacrifices, made by Sri Lanka Army War Heroes in the defence of the motherland, generously donated one of her ancestral 90 perch land worth over Rs. 2 million at Uhumiya, Kurunegala for construction of houses to disable War Heroes, Sergeant A.P. Laxman (9 VIR), Corporal Tharanga Kumara (4 VIR), Private N.M.K. Rupasinghe (6 VIR), Private T.M. Edirisuriya (1 VIR), Private D.B.S.S. Rajapaksha (1 VIR) and Private Saman Kumara (9 VIR). Each of them was to receive 15 perches in the same block. All those six War Heroes during most ferocious battles during the last lap of the War for Peace sustained permanent disability.
This rare donation of deeds took place at the Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama under the auspices of Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera, incumbent Sri Naga Viharaya who delivered an Anusasana (oration) on the occasion. Mrs. Preethi Samarathunge, President VIR Seva Vanitha Unit, Senior Seva Vanitha members, Colonel of the VIR Regiment Brigadier R.V.
