  • Army Carries Away Swimming Championship

    THE CHAMPIONSHIP in the annual swimming competition, organized by Wellawatta Kinross Swimming Club  was won by Sri Lanka Army in addition to the ‘N.G Sirimanne’ Memorial Trophy, awarded for the 1st place in the event. The Army swimming team that competed in the 6 mile long swim included eleven male swimmers and one woman swimmer.

    RANA ARUNA UDANAYA – 2010’ new year fair organized by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) under the guidance of its President, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, was ceremonially inaugurated by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on Friday (02) morning in Panagoda. This fare, organized to collect funds for Seva Vanitha  projects for the welfare of disabled war heroes, will continue for two days, 2nd and 3rd April.

  • SECOND COURT MARTIAL TO HEAR CHARGES AGAINST GENERAL SARATH FONSEKA RECONVENED

    HIS EXCELLENCY, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa has substituted a fresh convening order by nominating three new senior Army officers to the second Court Martial (CM), expected to hear charges against General Sarath Fonseka, now in military custody.Major General M.P. Peiris RWP RSP USP ndc psc (President-CM), Major General S.W.L Daulagala RSP USP and Major General M. Hathurusinghe RSP IG are to sit for the tribunal, fixed for April 6th  afternoon.

  • Post-War Housing Boom with Army Support Begins in Jaffna ; President Symbolically Hands over Keys

    HE THE PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa during a ceremony at Jaffna Duraiappa Stadium Thursday (1) morning symbolically handed over all 680 new houses built by the Army for displaced people in Jaffna on a directive given to the Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. President Rajapaksa inaugurating the ceremony delivered the keys to several recipients of those houses in a symbolic gesture.  At the conclusion of this ceremony which came in praise of the general public" President Rajapaksa attended a special Pooja at Nallur Kovil before he paid a visit to Naga Vihara Buddhist temple for offerings.

  • Tribute Paid to Late Sir John Kotelawala on His 113th Birth Anniversary

    A COMMEMORATIVE CEREMONY to mark the 113th birth anniversary of Late General Sir John Kotelawala CH KBE LLD, organized by Ratmalana Gen. Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was held at the university premises Sunday (4) morning. The ceremony is annually held by the KDU in collaboration with the Gen. Sir John Kotelawala Memorial Society as a mark of honour and gratitude paid to the political cum military veteran who donated his property including the Kandawala “Walauva” and his estate for the use of Armed Forces before his demise. Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasooriya who was the Chief Guest at the ceremony was received on arrival by the Chancellor KDU and incumbent President of Gen. Sir John Kotelawala Memorial Society Gen. (Retd) J.E.D Perera.

  • A'pura 'Ran Kekulu' Show New Year Talents


    THE ANNUAL SPORTS MEET at Anuradhapura Ran Kekulu Pre-school, run by Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) was held at Pre-school ground on 20th March 2010. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB. This was organized to improve the sports skills of the pre-school students. Tricycle races, obstacle crossing, fancy dress parades, team events and PT display, etc were among prominent and interesting features in the event.

  • Trincomalee Sinhalese, Tamils & Muslims Together Compete in Football Tournament

    WITH THE ERADICATION of the 30 year long terrorism, the Trincomalee District in the Eastern Province is undergoing rapid development, not only in infrastructure but also in the field of sports. The finals of Trincomalee District Football Tournament, sponsored by National Lottery Board and organized jointly by Army’s 22 Division and Trincomalee District Football League, were competed by 24 Football teams before the finals on March 28th.   

  • New Digital Centre for Rehabilitating Tamil Youth Opened

    HE THE PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa during his recent tour to Vavuniya opened a new Digital Technology Education Centre, meant to give education on Digital Technology and IT to youth under rehabilitation at Rehabilitation Centre in Pampemadu, Vavuniya. The new centre, run jointly by the office of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation and Sri Lanka Army consists of 30 computers and it was established with the sponsorship received from Virtusa Computer Institute.
