  • Engineers Win Army Inter Regiment Swimming Championship for Novices


    The Inter Regiment swimming championship for novices was held at Panagoda on 29 August. This novice swimming championship was held for two days (28 to 29). Men’s Championship was won by Corps of Engineers while Gemunu Watch secured the runners-up position. Women’s championship was won by 6th Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps while the 5th Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps emerged runners-up.
  • Abimansala - II Inmates Enjoy Musical Treat


    The management of the Abimansala -II held the “Tharaka Handawa” musical entertainment at the Abimansala II, premises in Kaburupitiya on Sunday (25). More than 10 renowned singers participated in this programme. All inmates who are presently undergoing treatment at the ‘Abimansala-II’ participated in his entertainment.

  • More Families Given Land After Demining

    Troops in the East handed over more land to its original owners in a ceremony, held at Koonathive East, Sampoor recently. There areas before handing over to the owners were cleared of landmines by troops. A total of 56 families from Koonathive east Sampoor were resettled with necessary assistance provided to them by the troops. Several Senior officers, civil invitees attended the occasion.

  • SLASC Clinches Inter Regiment Basketball Championship


    Inter Regiment Basketball Championship – 2013 was held at the Sri Lanka Army General Services Corps (SLAGSC) basketball grounds on Friday (23). Sri Lanka Army Services Corps (SLASC) won the men’s championship by defeating Commando Regiment (CDO) 66 points to 52 while women’s championship was won by Sri Lanka Army women’s Corps beating Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police by 47 to 37.
  • Awareness Programme & Foundation Stone Laid for Three New Houses in Bogaswewa Area


    An awareness programme organized by 56 Division in coordination with ‘Success’ Sri Lanka organization, on cultivation of passion fruit cultivation as a self-employment project for Bogaswewa civilians was introduced last Wednesday (28 Aug). Meanwhile, extending its social welfare initiatives, Sri Lanka Army laid foundation stones for construction of three new houses.....
  • 'Defence Seminar -“ 2013' Inaugurates at Galadari Hotel


    A total of 66 foreign delegates, in addition to the participation of Sri Lanka-based Diplomats and Defence Attachés, will attend the year’s mammoth ‘Defence Seminar - 2013’ beginning Tuesday (3) morning at Colombo Galadari Hotel at the invitation of the Sri Lanka Army. Themed on ‘Post-Conflict Sri Lanka: Challenges and Regional Stability’, the three-day conference (Sept 3-5) is to be attended by more than 300 participants. HE the President’s Secretary Mr Lalith Weeratunge, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the invitation of Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, will grace the occasion as distinguished guests. Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa is to deliver the keynote address soon after the formal welcome address is done by the Commander of the Army, the host of the ‘Defence Seminar - 2013.’’
