  • Jaffna Commander Meets Jaffna Bishop

    COMMANDER, Security Forces Jaffna Major General M. Hathurusinghe called on the Bishop of Jaffna Rt. Rev. Thomas Saundranayagam at his official residence on 17th February morning.During this meeting they discussed the current security situation in the Jaffna peninsula and ways and means of improving the living standard of ordinary people in the area who had suffered during the three-decade long war.

  • Twenty-one Soldiers Qualify in Taekwondo Course

    JAFFNA Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe was the Chief Guest for graduation of twenty-one soldiers who followed a 2 months long Taekwondo course at Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J). It was held at the sports ground in SFHQ-J with the participation of Division Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Other Senior and Junior Officers and a large number of Other Ranks serving in Jaffna.

  • President Hands Over Three-Wheelers to War Heroes

    PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (22)  handed over 100 three-wheelers to 100 disabled War Heroes at the Army Grounds in appreciation of their valuable service to safeguard the unity of the country and free it from terrorism even sacrificing their legs and limbs. The three-wheelers were distributed among War Heroes by the Ranaviru Seva Authority which has already distributed 500 three-wheelers among the War Heroes on five occasions.   • War Hero Families in Gampaha Honoured

    CLOSE RELATIVES of War Heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland were awarded medals in a project launched jointly by the Ministry of Defence and Ranaviru Seva Authority. The ceremony for awarding of medals to the relatives of War Heroes in Gampaha District was held  attended by Secretary of Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Chief Guest. It was held in the Commando Regiment Camp in Ganemulla on 23rd February morning. .

  • Galle Viru Kekulu Kids Show Their Veerya

    THE ANNUAL sports festival at Galle ‘Viru Kekulu’ pre-school, managed by Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) got underway during the weekend at 2 Gemunu Watch (V) play ground, Galle Fort. The sports festival, an annual event at the pre-school, attended by over one hundred kids, belonging to Galle District based War Hero families, is also meant to promote sports skills among those kids, attending this SVAB school.

  • Seva Vanitha Receives Further Boost for Wellness Resort

    THE PROPOSED Wellness Resort at Anuradhapura received further patronage during the February month Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) meeting when one Mrs Chandra Fernando, and expatriate from Mount Lavinia gave away Rs 30,000 towards the project in memory of her late parents. Mr Upali Gallage and Mrs Leelawathi on behalf of the expatriate, Mrs Chandra Fernando made the donation to Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB during the monthly meeting at SVAB auditorium, Army Headquarters.

  • Disable VIR War Hero Offered House

    A WAR HERO, sustained injuries in Welioya and became totally blind while engaged in operations against LTTE terrorists was donated a new house, built at a cost of Rs. 710,000.00 recently in Habaragala Ella, Gampola. This new house built using donations offered by Mr. Lasith Ranathunga and his friends at Dubai based Emirates Bank International was handed over to the War Hero, Sergeant B.M.A.C Bandara of 9th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) at the auspicious time. The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit coordinated this noble deed.

  • Army Engineers Save Millions & Restore Sri Pada Raja Mawatha

    THE famous lyricist, Mahagama Sekara saying “Muni Siripa Piyume ……. Niwan Purata Maga Penena” once highlighted the aesthetic beauty that envelops the flights of stairs that lead to the picturesque Sri Pada top. Many local poets have similarly added their flavor to the historic Ratnapura Sri Palabaddala footpath ‘Raja Mawatha’ open for Sri Pada pilgrims, said to have been made centuries ago during the reign of King Nissanka Malla. The Raja Mawatha footpath, popularly trekked by Buddhists, Hindus and Moors alike during Sri Pada season remains a symbol of veneration for all four denominations.
