Disable VIR War Hero Offered House

A WAR HERO, sustained injuries in Welioya and became totally blind while engaged in operations against LTTE terrorists was donated a new house, built at a cost of Rs. 710,000.00 recently in Habaragala Ella, Gampola. 

This new house built using donations offered by Mr. Lasith Ranathunga and his friends at Dubai based Emirates Bank International was handed over to the War Hero, Sergeant B.M.A.C Bandara of 9th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) at the auspicious time. The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit coordinated this noble deed.

The key to this new house was handed over to Sergeant Bandara by Brigadier R.V. Samarathunga, Colonel of the VIR Regiment. The members of VIR Seva Vanitha Unit including its President Mrs Preethi Samarathunga, officers and soldiers were present on the occasion. 

In the meantime, the Annual General Meeting of the VIR Seva Vanitha Unit was held on 20th February morning at the Officers’ Mess at VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, headed by its President Mrs Preethi Samarathunga.

During the meeting, new office bearers at VIR Seva Vanitha Unit were appointed and the action plan for the year 2010 was taken up for discussion. Further, the hospital visits to be carried out by the Seva Vanitha members and a programme to raise funds were also discussed during the session.
