Twenty-one Soldiers Qualify in Taekwondo Course

JAFFNA Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe was the Chief Guest for graduation of twenty-one soldiers who followed a 2 months long Taekwondo course at Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J). It was held at the sports ground in SFHQ-J with the participation of Division Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Other Senior and Junior Officers and a large number of Other Ranks serving in Jaffna.

This martial art has a history of over 2000 years and originated in Korea to defend their territory from the enemies. It was introduced to Sri Lanka in 1996 and Sri Lanka Army is at the forefront of this martial art producing a large number of sports men and women of national and international standards. Over 8000 members of the Army have followed the Taekwondo course to-date.

These twenty-one trainees consisted of male and female soldiers were awarded their belts and certificates during this ceremony. A special Taekwondo show was performed by the sports men and women in the Army Taekwondo pool including those who have won medals in international events.
