    Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani after completion of his three-day goodwill visit to Sri Lanka left for his country Friday (21) afternoon amidst warm greetings and memories.     The Army Colours Night - 2010 that recognizes excellent sports talents of Army personnel at both national and international levels after an interval of thirteen years, resumed at Sugathadasa Stadium Thursday (27) evening.   • President SVAB Esteems War Hero Children's Flair

    President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch, (SVAB) Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya declared open an Art Exhibition of paintings drawn by 377 children of War Heroes at Punchi Theater, Borella Saturday (29). Paintings on show were selected at a competition, held among War Hero Children of all Regiments last year to mark the World Children’s Day at Panagoda on 23rd October.

    The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, Moscow, promptly initiated a programme among expatriates to raise relief funds for flood victims in Sri Lanka.   • Troops Organize Medical Camp & Pirith Chanting

    A special medical clinic, meant for resettled civilians in Olumadu, Ampakamam and Mankulam Grama Seva divisions, provided medical assistance to over 350 civilians with the support of the Balapitiya Lion Club. The project organized by the 28 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops received the support of 613 Brigade and the Task Force 3 troops. On the same occasion, 250 school children and 100 civilians were provided school accessories and packets of dry rations respectively. The cost for dry rations was borne by the 28 SLNG troops.

    On the eve of the National Independence Day ceremony at Kataragama, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, now in Kataragama, took time off to visit the Buttala ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition site Thursday (3) afternoon, hours before its formal opening. Chief of Defence Staff, Army and Navy Commanders, Inspector General of Police and senior officers received the visiting Secretary Defence on arrival and conducted him to show around exhibition stalls that have been put up by Tri-services, Police and the Civil Defence Force.
