  • First Army Contingent For Lebanon Set To Leave

    Sri Lanka Army, currently recognized as a troop contributing Army to the UN Peace Keeping Missions, has received one more feather in its cap as its first-ever Lebanon-bound contingent of 150 Army personnel, is now set to leave on UN assignments. The contingent, made up of 8 officers and 91 soldiers of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment, the latest addition to the Sri Lanka Army and 2 officers and 39 soldiers.....

  • NORTHERN PUBLIC WARNED AGAINST IMPOSTERS & EXTORTIONISTS

    Members of the general public in Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Vavuniya and Jaffna districts are warned against certain manipulative moves, currently set in motion in above areas by an organized ring of swindlers, aimed at exploiting grievances or concerns of war-affected northern civilians, including parents who have not yet been able to trace whereabouts of their missing ones.   • US Government Recognizes Army's Difficult Demining Roles

    Sri Lanka Army deminers received further recognition for their good Samaritan roles in Wanni minefields when the US government on Monday (22) donated several vehicles, trucks, ambulances and equipment to the Army for acceleration of its humanitarian demining work. Ms Valerie Fowler, ChargÄ“ d’ Affaires at the US Embassy, donating a part of the consignment, valued at half a million US Dollars.....

  • Disable War Heroes Receive Benefactions From MoD Seva Vanitha Unit

    In appreciation of their noble sacrifice to liberate the motherland from the curse of terrorism, the Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the Ministry of Defence provides financial assistance to disabled war heroes of the armed services and the Police.   • New Minister Visits Recuperating War Heroes as His First Official Assignment

    Minister of Plantations, Hon Mahinda Samarasinghe, minutes after he was sworn in as new Minister of Plantations for the second term, visited the Military Hospital Monday (22) mid-noon with the view to expressing his gratitude to recuperating War Heroes. This was the first official assignment of the Minister after he was re-sworn in as the new Minister of Plantations Monday (22) morning.

  • Kilinochchi Students Receive Push Bicycles

    571 Brigade in Kilinochchi with the support of Lion's Club in Colombo, recently took an initiative to give away 40 push bicycles among Kilinochchi students as one more of their humanitarian social service projects. Army troops in the 571 Brigade on the instructions of its Brigade Commander Colonel Nanda Hathurusinghe, liaised with school and educational authorities in Kilinochchi area and selected the most deserving students, resident in poverty-stricken remote areas.

    Sri Lanka Army, broadening its horizons further into large scale agro-industry, farming and dairy products entered into a joint cultivation venture with the Letsgrow (Pvt) Ltd for cultivations in selected Army-owned lands, farms and formations across the country after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the lessee and the Sri Lanka Army early this week. The new agreement with the private firm, which has potential buyers for agricultural products.....
