Brigadier S.H.F.P. Perera, assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC), 61 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) during a simple ceremony on Wednesday (5) at the 61 Divisional Headquarters, Wennankulam. The All Island ‘Shakthi’ Power Lifting Championships -2015 took place on 1 August at Maithree Hall, Bandaragama with the participation of 8 teams. Sri Lanka Army fielded 2 teams for the tournament where they showed exceptional skills. The Army ‘A’ team emerged as the overall champions of the tournament and won commendations. 
Major General A.S Peiris (Retd), a veteran in the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment, passed away on Monday (3) at the age of 72 years after a distinguished military career of more than 34 years. His remains are lying at 20/3A, Vijaya Kumaratunga Mawatha, Averihena Road, Polhengoda, Kirulapana. The funeral with military honours will take place on Saturday (8) at the General Cemetery, Borella at 4.00 p.m.
