The second ‘4 x 4 Expedition 2015’ of the Commandos with 29 vehicles that covered a distance of 776 km along the eastern coastal belt, commencing from Jaffna on August 3, ended on Saturday (8) on a triumphant note after reaching Kudaoya Commando Training School.
The thrilling expedition, organized by the Commando Regiment (CR) of the Army itself took 6 days covering Jaffna, Nayaru-Dehiwatta, Arugambay and Kudaoya with a fleet of 29 4 x 4 (four wheel) vehicles, owned by civilians.
Major General Jagath Dias, Chief of Staff was invited to see the final Challenge Event at the Kudaoya track as the Chief Guest of the day by Major General Prasanna Silva, Colonel of the Regiment, CR.
The expedition attracted 4 wheel vehicles which are confident in driving along sandy beaches and capable of crossing Manalkadu sand dunes, Chalai lagoons, muddy roads, narrow paths, dense jungles and rural villages, along the Eastern coastal belt until the expedition reached its climax upon reaching Kudaoya for the Challenge Event.
As in the previous year, the expedition was designed covering five legs; Point Pedro to Nayaru (147 km) on Day 01, Nayaru to Dehiwatta (146 km) on Day 02, Dehiwatta to Maduru Oya (176 km) on Day 03, Maduru Oya to Arugam Bay (165 km) on Day 04, Arugam Bay to Uva Kuda Oya CR Training School (140 km) on Day 05 and was open to 4 x 4 standard vehicles, 4 x 4 modified class vehicles and medium duty and heavy duty sport utility vehicles which could be used for this exceptional motor expedition.
Major General Jagath Dias as the Chief Guest after the Challenge Event gave away awards to both winners in standard and stream events at the Kudaoya track.
