  • Seva Vanitha Extends Cordial Welcome to Visiting AWWA President


    Mrs Bikram Singh, President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) of the Indian Army and the spouse of  the Indian Chief of Army Staff, now in Sri Lanka on a five-day goodwill tour, was accorded a warm welcome by Sri Lanka’s sister organization, the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) at Colombo Galadari Hotel on Thursday (20).


  • Troops Provide 'Light' to Those Without Light


    Giving a boost to continue her studies,  10 Sri Lanka National Guard (10 SLNG) troops serving at Ketpeli, Jaffna provided a solar-powered lamp to the student, Miss Gnanabalasinham Ramsika of Usan Ramanathan Vidyalaya who is sitting the GCE O/Level examination these days. She lost her father during the war but was compelled to continue her studies amidst financial hardships, together with her mother and family members.
  • Army Troops Throw Weight Behind Flood Relief Operations


    More than 2500 soldiers of the Army across the island on the directions of the Commander of the Army, are round the clock working in order to provide relief to thousands of flood victims and restore normalcy in affected areas. Hundreds of troops in Matale, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Hambantota, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Moneragala, Puttalam, Kegale, Batticaloa and Kurunegala......

  • Army Contributes to National Health Week


    In parallel with the National Health Week (Dec 10-17), the 515 Brigade troops at Kankasanturai conducted a cleaning campaign in the Telippalai Base Hospital premises on Saturday (15). More than 75 soldiers of the 7 Gajaba Regiment (GR) serving the 515 Brigade carried out the Shramadana (Self Help) programme.
  • Training Workshops on Boxing & Civil Relations Held


    Security Forces Headquarters- Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), intending to enhance general knowledge on social, cultural and personal dimensions of Tamil civilians, organized a workshop for all commanding officers in the area for five days. Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-KLN attended the final sessions of the workshop which selected the Best Division, Best Brigade, Best Unit and the Best Commanding Officer for award of valuable gifts and certificates.

  • Army Wrestlers Win Two Bronze Medals in International Event


    Two wrestlers of the Army, Lance Corporal E S M Priyankara and Lance Corporal U M C Albert after beating their rivals in the International Wrestling Championship Tournament in Pakistan, won Bronze medals, bringing credit to the Army and the country. The tournament lasted in Pakistan for six days (Dec 4-10) was contested by five countries in the region.
     
  • Troops Help Find Better Sources of Income to Villagers


    Hundreds of civilians living in Kokeliya, Semamadu, Karukkalkulam, Nambankulam and Kelebogaswewa areas, most of who are engaged in fishing as means of living will reap the benefits shortly since the 563 Brigade under the 56 Division in coordination with National Water Resources and Breeding Authority, had got more than 90,000 fresh water fish released into several lakes in the area.

  • DSCSC Graduation Held on Grand Scale at Temple Trees


    The sixth graduation ceremony of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Sapugaskanda got underway Thursday (20) evening at Temple Trees, headed by Minister of External Affairs, Prof  G.L Peiris as the Chief Guest. At the invitation of the DSCSC, President’s Secretary, Mr Lalith Weerathunga, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, Chief of Defence Staff.......

    The spouse of the visiting India’s Chief of Army Staff, Mrs Bikram Singh nee Surjeet Kaur who is also the President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) called at Anuradhapura wellness resort, ‘Abimansala – 1’ for dependent disable War Heroes on Friday (21) in the company of Mrs Renuka Sriyangani Perera, the spouse of the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters – Wanni (SFHQ-W) and several senior officers.

  • Indian Army Chief Visits Wanni & Anuradhapura


    The Indian Army Chief, General Bikram Singh PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, ADC currently in Sri Lanka at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart as part of his peripheral itinerary away from the capital flew to the Security Forces Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) and Anuradhapura on Friday (21).
