  • Sri Lanka's Inaugural 'Cism Day Run' For Service Personnel On Sunday (19)

     
    Brussels-based International Military Sports Council (Conseil International du Sport Militaire), more widely known as CISM, is to inaugurate its first-ever Sri Lanka’s ‘CISM Day Run’ on Sunday (19) at Colombo Independence Square, commencing at 6.00 a.m. with the participation of 300 tri-service personnel, headed by respective three Commanders.  CISM with its motto, “Friendship through Sport” as one of world’s largest multidisciplinary organizations, dedicated to promote world peace by uniting armed forces through sport, organizes diverse sporting events for the armed forces of 133 member countries world-wide annually.   This is the first time the Army, as the pioneering major organizer for the arrangement, organizes the annual ‘CISM Day Run’ event in Sri Lanka with the support of sister services and the Defence Services Sports Board, chaired  currently by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.
     
  • 'Ruthless' To Expose LTTE Crimes Against Humanity & Tamil Civilians

     
    The DVD "Ruthless," that displays LTTE’s heinous crimes against humanity as the humanitarian operations were reaching crucial final stages in early 2009, was released on Wednesday (8) during a media conference at Media Centre for National Security (MCNS). Flanked by tri-service and Police spokesmen, MCNS Director General Mr Lakshman Hulugalle after screening the DVD explained the series of ordeals that the  Tamil people had to undergo under the diktats of the LTTE’s ruthless leader Prabhakaran and his cohorts.
     
  • Army Renovates Abandoned Pre-School Buildings


    The reputed pre-childhood development center, Yarl Beski pre-school at Gurunagar which remained closed for more than ten years, owing to terrorist menace, was re-opened on Wednesday (08) as a result of Army initiatives. Troops of 9 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) colour-washed and renovated the existing buildings and re-did the entire ground premises with grass and flower plants before its re-opening.
     
  • 28 Kilinochchi Schools Participate in Army Organized Handball Tournament


    On an initiative taken by 57 Division with the blessings of the Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi, a Handball tournament was organized recently with the participation of 28 schools in Kilinochchi. The tournament continued for two days at Kilinochchi Madya Maha Vidyala playground saw eight school teams qualify for the semi-finals.
     
  • Soldiers Join Shramadana & Clean Negombo Beach


    Over 150 officers and soldiers serving 14 Division Headquarters on Wednesday (08) conducted a Shramadana and cleaned Negombo beach area with the help of medical staff at Negombo Hospital and Negombo Urban Council Staff. The cleaning project, organized on the instructions of the Security Forces Headquarters, South was conducted successfully by the soldiers under sector 15 in Negombo.
     
  • Troops Listen to Lecture on Social Development


    The well-known orator, Professor Sarath Wijesuriya, University of Colombo at the invitation of the 52 Division Headquarters, recently conducted a public lecture on sociological development and social attitudes to the troops serving the area. Lieutenant Colonel B.M.R.J Bandara, 16 (v) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Commanding Officer coordinated the lecture at Eludumaduwal, Jaffna.
     
  • Musical Show Entertains Mullaittivu Civilians


    A record number of about 5000 fans, representing all walks of life in Mullaittivu recently enjoyed the ‘Mullaittivu Gee Nada’ musical show, organized by the 59 Infantry Division in Mullaittivu on January (29). Tamil singers and movie stars coloured the evening backed by the popular Shakthi band.
     
  • 612 Brigade Headquarters Take Children to See 'Deyata Kirula'


    Hundreds of Wanni school students had the rare chance of interacting with others when they were taken on tour to visit the ‘Deyata Kirula’ mega exhibition at Oyamaduwa, Anuradhapura. The arrangement, initiated by 612 Brigade Headquarters, on the instructions of the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni included the students from Manthai east Thandikulam Maha Vidyalaya and Chiraddikulam Maha Vidyalaya.
     
  • Army Commander-Appointed Court of Inquiry Probing into LLRC Report Observations in Progress


    A Court of Inquiry, appointed by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya to inquire into the observations, made by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) in its report on alleged civilian casualties during the final phase of the humanitarian operations and probe as regards Channel-4 video footage irrespective of its authenticity or otherwise, is now in full progress. The five-member Court of Inquiry appointed on 2 January 2012 by virtue of the powers, vested in the Army Commander by Regulation 4 of the Courts of Inquiry Regulations, read with the Regulation 2 of the Army Disciplinary Regulations, is headed by Major General Chrishantha De Silva, the present Commander of the Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi.
