    Calypso band, a byproduct of the Caribbean music traditions which has gained popularity among Sri Lankan music fans too for many years, has made great strides and claims equal prominence, among Army soldiers serving round the island. Giving a new revival to this merry-making feature in the Army, Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), fully aware of musical talents of Army Calypso teams operating under all Divisions, Brigades and other formations of the SFHQ-W, took a special initiative to assemble them under one roof for a Calypso Competition on Saturday (21) evening.
     
  • General Amnesty Offered to Army Absentees Under New Speedy Programme


    Following the approval of the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Minister of Defence, HE the President, the Commander of the Army on the directions of the Ministry of Defence, has offered a general amnesty period for Army absentees, enabling them to receive their legal discharge from the Army within a day or two.

    Ambepussa based Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) Headquarters recently won the Bronze medal for its “Eco-Friendly Digital Library”, in the “Holcim Awards-2014”of the Holcim Foundation which is an ongoing major project at the SLSR Regimental Headquarters. The ‘Holcim Awards’ Jury for Region Asia Pacific met at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in July 2014 and the Holcim Foundation recently announced.....
