The year’s mammoth motor racing event, ‘Fox Hill Supercross - 2015’ at Diyatalawa will get underway on April 18 at the famous Fox Hill track on a grand scale, it was announced at a special media briefing Friday (27) evening at Colombo Galadari Hotel.
The mega event, held for the 23rd consecutive year, in its unique 2 km long track, is organized by the Army’s premier seat of military learning, Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in coordination with the Sri Lanka Autosports Drivers Association (SLADA).
This year’s spectacle with more than 130 motorcycle riders and 90 motorcar drivers in more than 24 racing and riding competitions, expects to draw a record 25,000 spectators and Huawei Technologies Company Limited is the main sponsor for this year’s event, Brigadier R.W.W.A.D.B Rajaguru, SLMA Commandant told the gathering.
Brigadier Rajaguru tracing the history of SLMA’s motor racing event paid the glowing tribute to the founding fathers of the event including late Major General Gamini Gunasekara and a couple of others.
The grand prize-giving ceremony, headed by Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army and a host of senior officers, will carry trophies, cash prizes and merit awards.
Several foreign riders and drivers will also compete in the event, together with racing veterans, like Gayan Sandaruwan (Champion in motorbike category several years), Sasindu Peiris (famed racing driver) in both categories.
Proceeds from this mega event that brings the cream of racing and riding experts to one single location are used to raise professional standards and infrastructure facilities of the SLMA. In the past 22 years, the ‘Fox Hill Supercross - 2015’ has earned the reputation of being the most thrilling racing event in the island and funds thus collected have been used to construct the SLMA’s language laboratory, IT unit, gymnasium, swimming pool and a few other necessary buildings.
Tickets are priced at Rs 2,500/= (exclusive grand stand), Rs 1,000/= (grand stand ticket), Rs 1,500/= (paddock hill) and Rs 100/= (public area).
Mr Daniel Sun, Chief Executive Officer, Huawei Technologies Ltd, which is the main sponsor of the event, Mr Dilhan Jayawardena, President, SLADA, Mr Muditha Adikari, Country Sales Manager, Coca Cola Beverages and a few other sponsors addressed the gathering. Sponsors at the same occasion symbolically handed over their cheques to SLMA Commandant, Brigadier Rajaguru.
